    Default 5 hour energy?

    Hi everyone,

I have taken up long distance running. I know we are not supposed to have caffeine.... Can anyone tell me why?

Secondly, my trainer told me to take 5 hour energy before I run bc I have been unable to make it through all of my workouts and it is impossible for me to eat anymore than I am eating right now. Does anyone take 5 hour energy before workouts or know of some kind immediate energy drink or supplement that is bariatric surgery approved?

    Thanks!

I haven't been told to avoid caffeine, in fact all-milk coffee was one of the suggestions in the liquid phase. As I understand it, the possible concern about diuretic effects of caffeine only applies if you're having in excess of 6 cups of a day. As it happens I don't drink coffee or tea routinely so it's not a bother to me.

They advise to avoid caffeine because it tends to upset your stomach and because you absorb things differently now... it can cause over production of acid... As for the 5 hour energy... I cannot see a reason against it unless it messes with your stomach but everyone is different.

I was told not to have caffeine because it can cause ulcers, and sleevers are at an increased risk of getting them. My doctor also told me that caffeine dehydrates you and stimulates hunger hormones (not all of them are removed during surgery).

Those are the same things I was told, BUT every dr is different. I say just use common sense.

I was advised the ulsers as well. Have you tried the p90x preworkout drink. I would think that would be better than a 5 hour energy. Gatoraid also make one. You can also look at beach body. Good Luck!

I drink an iced latte every morning and occasionally drink the monster rehab drinks. They are non-carbonated for energy and help with rehydration
