Default So I had my surgery on Tuesday......not quite what I expected

First I wanted to say thanks to all of those who wished me well on my big day. I really appreciated all of your support.

The surgery itself was pretty uneventful (Thank you Jesus) aside from that gas pain. Still dealing with some of it. It hit me about 2 am on the second morning and I was doubled over in pain for most of the morning. OMG that pain is no joke!!

I have a question though. Did anyone else come out of surgery feeling pretty much the same??
Outside of feeling like someone punched me in the stomach I don't feel any different. I don't feel full after a couple of ounces at all. I haven't tried but I feel like I could eat a regular size portion. That really scares me.

Also, I went into surgery weighing 293.4 and today I weigh 303.6. How on earth does that happen?

I would hate to have gone through all of this and no be headed in the right direction right out the gate!

I haven't had surgery yet. But as far as 'gaining weight', it happens because of all the fluids from the IV, and the swelling in your body. Give it a week or so, that weight will come right off. Hang in there and Congrats!

I think the weight gain is because they fill you with fluids at the hospital. They had me on the IV doing double time half the rind because no matter what I did or they did I was dehydrated. I had surgery on Monday and am still super bloated. Not weighing in until my follow up though. Yuck, just coughed. That hurt!

My friend had the surgery in June while I was out of the country. We talked a few times and she said that she lost a few pounds on the scale but that everything fit tight. She was a bit worried and I told her just to wait. Well, it is almost 4 months after her surgery and she lost more than 60 pounds and you can see it. It is amazing She and I are (she was) the biggest couch potatoes. I am doing mine next week because I have had a band since 2004 and I could never achieve the type of weight loss I am seeing with her in such a short time! I can't wait!

I had surgery the day before you. I was in A LOT OF PAIN after i woke up. My surgeon even told me im "very sensible" yeah right!!! I felt like a car ran over my belly lol . but it got better. All my dealing with now is the gas which annoys me but im sure it will be gone soon.

I had my surgery and I don't think I was ready for the pain for sure. I also checked my weight when I got there and I was down 10 lbs from the liquid diet then weighed this morning and was up too so disappointing but I did think it might be from the iv. Glad it's over just waiting for the gas to stop. Good luck on your journey.

I had the same feelings. All my gas pains were in my shoulders and neck. I could drink easily could not really feel any restriction and still don't unless I drink a thick shake. I think when we advanced to more solid foods that full feeling will kick in. While in the hospital they pump you full of fluids. The injury to the tissues results in significant swelling for healing. You retain a great deal of those IV fluids resulting in gained weight. It may take several weeks before this swelling leaves your body causing frustrations because this water weight will eventually leave and the scales will indeed show that this surgery was worth it! Just Hang loose and follow your diet plan!

Don't be discouraged and keep those positive vibes going. Your surgery is over, now for the recovery and real weight loss. You will be dropping those initial pounds and the fluids really are not real weight. The gas will subside and in the rear view mirror of everything, you won't recall the initial days after surgery in anything other than in a haze, a happy haze of great accomplishment and reaching your goals, both on and off the scale. Keep us posted on your progress along the way. Good luck.

I also didnt feel any different. I dont know how I thought I should feel but a part of me thought I should feel different. I gained about 8 lbs when I came home from the hospital so it is normal. By the time you go back for your follow up that weight will be gone plus some. Just make sure you walk as much as possible and get your fluids in.

I am almost 2 wks out from the surgery and feel the same hunger pains. I thought the same thing that it felt like I could eat normal. But once you can start drinking protein drinks and cream soups you will find that you fill up real fast. In fact I made myself sick last night thinking that I could fit a little bit more in my stomach. Part of my problem is I can't quite eliminate the hunger feeling. I hope that eventually that feeling will go away. But the protein does help to make me feel less hungry and I do try to sip on tea and water drinks all day. I am still trying to figure it all out. I think I am hoping that once I can start eating normal foods that some of the pains will go away. Like I don't know if it is a digestion thing, when real food is in there then the digestion will make it go away. I don't know but I have heard on here from some people that it does get better once you can start eating food. Anyway stay in touch, it is good that you are doing good overall.

The first month can be pretty tough as you adjust to your new tummy and recover from major surgery. You need to heal and not worry about the weight loss...it WILL HAPPEN!. I know it is hard not to obsess over it...I know I did! The extra pounds you see right after surgery are due to fluids and it will come off quickly. Plus in a couple of week you will probably (but not everyone does) run into a stall. Perfectly normal as your body readjusts it self. You may still feel hungry in the beginning. That is because all you can have is liquids. Plus your mind still needs to catch up to your new tummy. It took me several months to quit putting so much food on my plate. In the beginning I thought "oh, certainly that is not enough" but low and behold I could never eat all what I put on my plate. Now, over a year out when I get food (especially if I am eating out) I think "Holy Cow! I can't eat all that!" Where as before I thought "How am I going to be satisfied on such a small portion?" So give your mind and body time to get in tune with each other! Good luck!

Passed personel goal weight of 135 in 9 months! Wow!

I had my surgery on 10/10 and indeed gained weight when I got home, heck I even posted on here asking how that could happen. This "weight" was gone in 4 days. I'm 10 days post-op and can say that other than 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt, I typically only managed to get down about 1/2 of my portions. I will tell you drinking as gotten SO much easier. In the beginning it hurt so bad I worked all day to get one protein shake down. I'm an advocate for walking to get the gas out. In the hospital I was made to walk the day of surgery and on the morning after I think I did about 6 laps around the floor before I went home. I never had the gas pain so many talk about. I came home on a Thursday late afternoon and at 9 am the next morning I walked a half mile with the hubby. I've built up to 3 miles a day now and I think it's a huge part of why I didn't have those pains. I now have to learn to quit weighing every day and night.

I didn't even weigh myself til a week after surgery...lost 18 lbs. My guess is that once you get home and start going through the diarrhea phase, the pounds will start to come off fairly rapidly, as was the case with me.
