Interesting article from BBC news today. Does not mention the sleeve.
Much of the article relates to the failure of gastric bands, and the lack of support and information.

The after care with nutritionalist and psychiatrist are so important, even more important than the weight loss itself. Most of us got as big as we are because of our heads. Once we start working out our heads and getting them strong and thinking about food in the proper persoective, all will follow.
Thank you for sharing this article.... as we know, surgery is NOT the quick fix!! x
I totally agree that aftercare is very important for long term success. As we know lots of methods (Low carb, weight watches, jenny craig, low fat, hcg) can lead to weightloss, it is the maintenance of weightloss that is difficult to achive. What is the point to get surgery to gain the weight back in a few years.. So I will do what I can to keep the weight off this time.
Hi, my Dad phoned after he seen that, plus my 'negative' sister had done some work on him. The news is very one sided, the lady on the sofa moaning claimed nobody told her she'd never eat a massive meal again and that she had no advice before or after, wtf, was she just led meekly into an operating theatre with no idea what was gona happen to her? Shame for the girl whose Mum died, but the news didn't say what she died off, coulda been she had underlying health issues. We know that in this country you have to be pretty unwell for the NHS to pay other that that it's your choice to pay big money, like I'm gona, for a complete package, or you can nip of to foreign climes for a cheaper unsupported deal. You get what you pay for and we would be foolish to not know what we are doing. Feel better now I got that off my chest!
Oh, please. Dieting is the "quick" fix. According to Gina Kolata, who wrote Rethinking Thin, 5% of people who diet keep their weight off. 5%. Yet the dieting industries insist that that's all we need to lose weight and keep it off. I'd like everyone involved in the program contributing to this article to consider the fact that dieting is a dangerous "quick fix" that causes weight regain (often to the point of obesity) and skin breakdown. Yet, nobody's going after Jenny Craig.
Everything about being overweight/obese is not being completely understood at this time, but thank God research has gotten far enough to realize that some people may need bariatric surgeries. As such, they are evolving. Some work better than others, band vs. sleeve, for example. But people have a lot of prejudice against bariatric surgery so the average person has to go through a lot of negativity just to inquire about it.
It doesnt matter what " The Quick Fix" is....what matters is you're being helped to a healther longer life...That was my decission to have the sleeve done...I didnt see what my weight and health problems had on anyone else...But i found out when my 10 yr old granddaughter seen me giving myself insulin..she asked me....how long do i have to take shots...i told her when i lose enough weight...That made me stop in my tracks and look at what kind of affect my health was having on other ppl. That is when i choose to really do something drastic because i knew without some kind of help i wasnt going to be around much longer...Now with each pound i lose i see me living longer and longer. So what if i took the " The Quick Fix" im not wanting to be around longer to please ppl that dont matter....im wanting to be around ppl THAT MATTER
Straight forward. Straight facts. Whether you like the truth or not... I'm not made of sugar coating
