Default Tomorrow is surgery day! What do I eat?

I'm not worried about the procedure at all. I have a wonderful surgeon and anesthetist.
However, I am worried about how I'll only be having water for the first few days. The thought of not being hungry is something I've never been able to comprehend as I am always hungry. Even when I've just finished a meal.
The thought of only water frightens me.
What got you through the first two weeks?
    Can you recommend anything?
Or will I simply not want anything and I just can't comprehend that at the moment?

Ice chips got me through day 1. You may not be hungry but you might be thirsty. Day 1 after surgery, I wasn't able to tolerate anything. Not water or anything. I really wanted some sugar free juice, but the hospital I was in, didn't have any. I ended up having some chicken broth like at 1am that night. Day 2 after surgery, sugar free popsicles were the best after I got home. I was able to tolerate water, watered down sugar free juice and broth. Day 3 protein shakes and all other liquids and that's pretty much where I stayed for 2 weeks. You might be hungry, I was when I got home from the hospital. So suck on a sugar free popsicle or sip some unsweet tea and such, you have to take it one day at a time. Best of luck on your journey.

How can you have a BIG meal if your surgery is in two days? Unless, you are talking about a BIG liquid meal?

I didn't want anything other than water for the first few days, it was bizarre! & I'm nearly 3 weeks out & still only head hunger. I've never been able to tell the difference before, but I can now.

Head hunger is still hard to get through , but keep busy or keep chatting online & you will do it.

Once your onto full fluids & soups you will be fine x

Dont worry-you will still get hungry!!! I was ALWAYS hungry for like four months. Now, I get hungry around the normal mealtimes. The difference being it only yakes a small amount to feel full. Its difficult to explain. You'll see. It's awesome, though-so is being a Size 6. Good luck!!

Hi! The first day of surgery I was only given a swab to swipe my mouth with water. I was not suppose to swallow any water for the first day. The second day they gave me 2oz of water to drink every 15-20 minutes. Once I tolerated the water, they gave me broth and jello. I was really only thirsty for water. The third day they gave me a protein drink. Once I tolerate that, I was released from the hospital to go home. It is a challenge the first few days to get your fluids in as your stomach is still very swollen and it takes time to ingest. You will be fine. Take care and best of luck with your surgery.

Good luck with your surgery. You will be on IV fluids so you will be hydrated & nourished. I was able to drink water & broth the same day as my surgery. And I have not really felt physically hungry, other than being aware that I need to eat and drink.

Head hunger is another issue altogether - and the rapid weight loss will keep you motivated as you learn to deal with it.

All the best and bon courage!
