No one at work knows I've had surgery, but everyone knows I've lost weight. It's kind of hard to hide an 80 pound loss! So when people ask me how much I've lost, I say, "a lot ( then I lol to make light of it) I'm just focusing on a healthier lifestyle so I'm not really weighing myself because I don't want the numbers to be a distraction."

For the most part I just say "Alot" for either "how much have you lost" or "how much more do you have to lose"
If they persist (and they do) I just smile at them and hold eye contact. My favorite response to that was by one of my clients who howled with laughter and said "did you really just tell me to eff off?" lol

I would say 39 pounds. That is how much you lost in the past month, why not be proud of it, and you were honest that you had wls. why not be honest with how much you lost. I'm sure if you told them the truth they would say positive things to you. Congrats on your 39 pound weight loss!

I guess I'm different, in that I like when people ask 'how much?' I alway give 2 numbers. My number that shows here, which is from the day I first started the pre-op diet, and the number from my highest ever, which is 16 pounds more. Most people look at me dumbfounded.......and then I say, "Yes, I was very fat!" and then "I still have a ways to go, but I'm getting there."

Some people (myself included) get tired of answering the questions again and again. If you get into the habit of telling people how much, then they will always want to know. And it's usually not just a few people. At work you have to deal with dozens of different busybodies. If you shut them down early on, give them the hint that how much you have lost is not a topic for discussion, then you won't have to keep answering the question over and over and over again. When you are losing a lot of weight in the beginning it's not a bad question to answer, but then what do you tell them when you've stalled for a month or gained a few pounds? What about if you are stuck but haven't reached your goal? Unlike some people at my office, my personal life is not something I discuss in intimate detail with everyone; quite the opposite. These people are colleagues, not friends, and should stick to work conversations. It's okay to make a compliment now and then, but since when it is okay to ask someone you don't know all that well how much they weigh on a regular basis? That kind of nosiness borders on rude, and I do not put up with it. With my friends I will take a little more time to explain (frankly) that I prefer not to be asked or answer that question, but with work colleagues I am much less tolerant of the nosy BS.
