Unhappy does anyone else feel like whatever they drink just sits in their throat?

I am 7 days post op and last night I was up all night because anytime I try to lay down whatever I drank comes back up at me. It's driving me crazy! I feel like everything gets stuck in my esophagus! Does anyone have any tricks to get over this? I have gastric reflux to begin with and was hoping it would get better! I'm getting rather depressed here! Thank you!! Lisa

try swallowing much smaller sips ... I find that if I try to drink too large a mouthful, it absolutely sits in my throat and makes me miserable

I had similar trouble the first few days after surgery. I wasn't able to get much fluid in at all and when I did, it felt like it wasn't going anywhere. I never had issues with it coming back up though. I got so frustrated at the amount of trouble I was having that I tried a GasX chewable tablets. After a couple of days, the medicine finally seemd to work and all of the sudden whatever I drank started going down and I was able to take in more fluids. It was almost as if my tummy was so full of air/gas that it couldn't handle anything more. I was truly worried that I wouldn't be able to get in the required amounts of daily protein or water. Thankfully, the gas meds helped tremendously. I just followed the dosage instructions on the package. Maybe this will give you some relief. If not, definitely contact your doctor.

Good luck!! I hope you get better soon. Hang in there!

    Adrienne

just got a call from the Doctors office. They want to do an upper endoscopy in the morning to see what's going on. Doesn't sound like fun to me! When they did my swallow test after surgery the stuff I swallowed just sat in my esophagus and very slowly trickled into my stomach. I think they might think the opening to my stomach is too narrow. UGH!

    Lisa:

Go to the Ticker Factory and choose the 'Anniversary' ticker. After you've created the design you like, copy the url, then go to your 'User CP' (see top of this page), pick 'edit signature' and there you can paste the new ticker info. Voila, you're done.

Hope everything goes well with your doctor tomorrow. Please post and let me know what you find out. Hopefully, you'll get some much needed relief and/or answers.

I have gastric reflux also, but haven't had any problems. My doctor has me taking Prilosec OTC 2 times a day for the 1st 30 days after my surgery. Maybe you should ask your doctor about that.

It definitely felt like it was stuck in my throat. I had to take very small sips and cold liquids were worse. Started sipping tea it was better. The problem got better over the months and now I can slowly gulp water down.
