Default My mind is playing tricks on me

I am 3 months post op and down 50 lbs. I am so happy about that, however every once in awhile I get this feeling like I haven't lost a pound at all. As if I was still 280 lbs. I see it in my clothes, I feel it at the gym that I am getting stronger, I hear it that I look great, but there is still that little voice in my head that I am still that large person. I keep reminding myself that 50 lbs is a lit of weight, that I have never lost that much weight ever in my life.

Does anyone ever feel like this?

yeah sure sometimes our brains havent caught up to the fact that we are actually succeeding and want to keep doing as it was before (ui.e. focused on failure). It was trained to be so used to failure for so long that it cant believe that success is actually here. There is always that dark cloud there that says your not going to keep losing weight your going to fail again. However, we have to retrain our thinking to keep saying Yes I am achieving, I can succeed, I can do this! When I get those kinds of thoughts I chant to myself, I am achieving, I am succeeding.

Yes, I am 2 months out and when I wake up I feel like maybe it is just a dream, but when I get dressed my clothes say different.

To shut those little voices up, I take a picture every day ... and compare it to the picture I took on the day of my surgery. We can't "see" our own results because we look at ourselves every day ... like the frog, in the boiling water. He'll sit there and boil if you gradually heat the pan up, but if you drop him into the already hot water, he'll leap out like his ass is on fire.

We all "know" we've done something ... but because we see ourselves every day, we don't see the subtle changes (like when my wife was first able to hug me and her hands touched behind my back ... I burst into tears because I hadn't thought the surgery was working until that point).

    Best of luck to you!

I find I still assume I am wider than I am, like when walking on the street and try to avoid bumping into people, or getting a seat on the plane and I suddenly realise that I fit in the seat perfectly normally.

As of late, in the mirror in the bathroom, I find myself staring at this "alien" body that I don't recognise. There is a disconnect between what I expect to see and what I am really seeing.

For me, they are more small joys that I take pleasure in. A bit of surprise. I maybe still "fat" in my mind, but someone has come and swapped out my body for a smaller version. Who am I to complain?

Personally, I would think about accepting that your mind will lag behind your body. Accept that you think you are fat and don't get upset at yourself for it, find joy in the fact that your brain is being a bit slow.

I really hope we can all get over feeling like the "fat person" in the room. That's not who we are!

I know how you feel, too. Don't get me wrong, I am very, very happy with my progress so far, but I have been at this weight several times in the past and I don't think I will be able to feel like I've truly beaten it (the weight monster, lol) until I get under 200lbs. I haven't been there in forever, and I think that will make it "real" for me. Like, I really am going to do it this time. For Good.

I feel the same all the time.. I think sometimes that my sleve has strecthed because somedays I can eat alot but in intervals .. I have actually learned to manipulate the sleeve, which is "sick" .. I have to deal with my addiction to food ass well . I am addicted to FOOD!! (there I said It) but anywho, I still think I am fat . ppl see me and give me great compliments , some of which i don't believe . But I have lost 50 lbs so far ..my year anniversary was yesterday .. i suppose i have one more year to get to my goal. oh well , it ook me 5-6 years to gain this weight , i just have to be real and go with the flow... I exercise 4-5 days a week. but I graze and thats not good .

I had the opposite experience yesterday. I got all gussied up for an event and felt really good looking... until I got there and looked at myself in their full length mirror under all the bright lights. I've gained more weight in the past few weeks, as usual. Boy, that was a shocker. Anyway, I do sometimes think that I've spent so much time as the "fat one", that after my surgery it will be hard for me to believe the scales.

I like the suggestion to take a picture of yourself often and compare them, when you begin to have those doubts.
