Also, the size you are will make a difference. When I was in my 20s and weighed roughly what I do now, 10, 20 lbs. was noticable.
I think why most dont notice the first 25 because we for the most part are still wearing the same clothes they just fit bigger. At 40-50 those clothes must go to smaller ones so people start to notice. I have noticed when I look in the mirror but its weird my left side in contouring more then my right. Odd.
So far I've lost 45 since I started this journey, 24 before surgery, 9 on the pre-op liquids, and 12 (plus the 6 from IVs) since surgery. I'm just now starting to see it in myself. No one has said anything, but I haven't really seen anyone other than family so far. I see a difference in my shirts and some in my shorts, but not enough to go down a size yet, and that's depressing. BUT, I'm gonna keep on keeping on!!
For me it was at about 10#. I think I lost a lot in my face very quickly and while I was still laying in the hospital bed family and friends were commenting on weight loss. But now at 32# down you can already see it everywhere. One of my best friends who I hadn't seen in about 3 weeks came over Monday night and said "OMG, you look great! Your legs are getting so small." That made me feel so good especially b/c of all the struggles and complications I've had since my surgery!!

Apart from the two people who knew I had surgery, no one mentioned they noticed my weight loss until I'd lost 35 pounds. At 40 pounds, I got a couple more comments. By 55 everyone was commenting. Now I'm at 70 and get comments daily.
I'm down over 50 lbs since the middle of June, but mostly, people don't notice yet. I get a lot of compliments on my hair (I purposely cut it short right before surgery) I get compliments that I look really nice...I say, oh it must be the hair cut, it's not as big!
My daughter notices everything, and won't quit playing with my arms, and sticks her hand between my stomach and the steering wheel - and pulls at my increasingly baggy pants -
I take a picture every monday...can definitely tell there's a progression, but really so far I just look less puffy.
The first week I lost 17 and a half pounds...and felt so thin...I didnt eat anything for the first week as was in total shock...The scales didnt really move too much after that..maybe a pound a week...this morning Im 169 from 197..and can notice it when I dress..it feels good...the next 14 pounds (which is called one stone in UK) I know everyone will really notice that..so excited to get the next stone off.....Sarah..
For me it was around 30 pounds lost that people started to notice. It will depend on height, frame and amount of weight to lose. People are really, really starting to notice it now. Yesterday I got the "oh my goodness, you like an entirely different person". This was from a woman that I haven't seen since 4 days before my surgery. Tuesday I will be 12 weeks out. I was so tickled by her comment. I was also called "thin" by one of my clients yesterday. I couldn't really believe my ears. I am so glad that I went through with this surgery!!!
Before surgery I lost 112 pounds then after surgery I lost 17. I'm 2 weeks 2 days post op and this week gained 6 pounds in a week, it's very frustrating! I do everything I'm suppose to do and still gain! Is this normal since I'm only 2 weeks out?
I've lost a little over 30 lbs so far and the only people who have commented are the ones that know. I am tall and evenly proportioned, but carry a lot of weight in my face. I think once it comes off your face, people notice more. I do see a difference in my body, though, and definitely in how my clothes fit.
I too gained a couple of pounds a couple of weeks after surgery. It is all about fluid shifts and the body trying to normalize into a new normal. The effects of a general anesthetic and being only on fluids is very confusing for our bodies. You KNOW that you could not have agined 5 pounds of real weight, as you are just not able to get in the volume of food. It truely is just fluid retensition. Stressed bodies retain any fluid they can. I found that when I increased my fluids and got more sleep (a 2 hour nap mid day for almost a MONTH!) things got better. The first month is more about getting in fluids and recovering, than it is about weight loss. Try not to fret, but I can say I felt the same during my 3 week stall that lasted from week 3-6. Now I am slowly loosing again. Your body is just trying to stabalize. Take care, Tricia
