Not happy

I cant believe that my insurance company is going to approve this and the hospital is saying NO due to the cost of the blood products...the insurance company states they cannot do that so the fight is on with the chief finance officer of the hospital....anyway it will not be done on the 20th as planned....figured I would pick a doctor that works at a profit hospital .....

WHy do they need to use blood products? This is laparscopic surgery and there's minimal blood loss. SOrry about your disappointment

I'm confused by the blood products too! I did have to sign a form in case I needed blood, but that was in the case of emergency. And the only other blood product was a anti coagulant which you need to have so you don't form clots. That's standard after most surgeries.

not sure what they are talking about. Anyway I feel you disappointment and I hope everythign is going to settle and you will have surgery sooner than later

I have a blood trait...mild case of hemophilia...blood clotting factor...anyway the doctor is ok as is the hemo doctor....its the hospital that says they will lose money because the product cost 10gs a day for 7 days and insurance will only pay 2gs a day...per the contract they signed with the insurance company..all which should not be my problem...I could go to another hospital to get it done but my doctor only works out of this one so I would have to find another doctor. (which I like this one). So it might be time to lawyer up. It will get done just when I thought it would...

I love how our health care is defined by cost and not care. It may be tome to chat with an attorney. Good luck to you...you will get this resolved..don't give up!

not giving up...insurance has approved just may have to find a different hospital and doctor....but I will get this done!

You only need to be in the hospital one or two nights. You'll need to take a large dose of factor, probably at least double your normal dose pre op. Your hematologist would be able to tell you exact. I don't see how its possible for the hospital to tell you no. Factor is about $5K a dose. You should not need a double dose daily if your case is mild. Thats a huge amount.

John, you need to stand your ground. This hospital signed a contract with your insurance, for the cost and they agreed to accept whatever the contract says. They should not be able to back out of that binding contract!

I know what your saying Kelly Jo but I have to go what the doctors are telling me and they say 7 days min. I know they are overly cautions but I just hope when the smoke clears that I dont have to switch doctors or hospital but it is what it is...we shall see!
