    Default More than 3 tablespoons

Mostly everyone has said they had trouble holding more than 3tablespoons at a time. Makes me wonder if my doc took anything out cause I have been able to do about 3/4 of a cup. Kind of bothers me that it seems I can hold more than I thought I would or want to. Don't feel I will be restricted enough.

    Thoughts?

Gretch, you should ask your doctor about how he calibrated the size of your sleeve. Anything we may tell you would be simply speculating.
I am 8 months out of surgery and I am able to eat more than 3 months ago but I do get full easily and I try not to eat to the point when I am completely full, I think this is the key. You don't say how long ago you had surgery so it doesn't give me any reference. Nowadays I can eat for breakfast 3/4 cup of cereal.

It also kinda depends on what you eat. I can eat more of soup or shakes than say actual meat. I tried grilled steak tonight and cut it up really tiny and maybe ate 2 oz. Just stop when you're comfortable, not when your full.

Gretchen, I am there with you ... I'm holding down about 3 - 4 ounces of food at a sitting ... I was terrified that I'd stretched out my new stomach already but my surgeon said as long as I'm stopping when I feel "full" I'm fine.

True with the liquids. I am 4 days post op so no solids yet except 2 bites of a banana yesterday. I just have to be patient.....not a virtue of mine!

I'm a month out today and feel like I can eat alot more than I thought I would be able to. I can eat a 4 oz can of chicken (with mayo) and a handful of Special K crackers and be absolutely fine. I've quit worrying about it because I've lost 30 lbs so far. And, I am satisfied with that. Before I would have had that on thick bread with chips, a few cookies and a large sweet tea. So, it's all in perspective! Actually, I wouldn't have had that. I would have had a value sized meal at a fast food place!! I think we are all different and will be able to eat differently. It's hard not to compare, (I know!), but do what's best for you and it will all work out!

I emailed my surgeon your exact question..he said liquids aren't meant to be restrictive that's why there's the phases (ours is 3weeks of liquid) to allow sleev to heal..when u start solids that when you'll feel restriction

i am having a difficult time with getting a whole oz in, i have tightening pain right between my ribs, which i think is the top of my stomach, i dont know if that's the FULL feeling or if im still healing... i'm 2 weeks post op on the 12th, have lost pounds so far , i feel great about that, but am kinda weak and tired. i've been working really hard on getting my fluids in, i use the timer on my iphone to remind me to keep sipping, every 2 mins, so that's been a big help. now if i could get in all my protein, i'd be doing great.

That pain between the ribs is pretty normal early on. It goes away.

Also, for folks worried about being able to drink 3/4 of a cup... All I have to say is think of what you were like pre-op. A 64oz Big Gulp wasn't a problem for me. A gigantic burrito, beans and rice wasn't a problem for me. You are in this for life, so even if you end up only losing a pound a week, or a pound a month, it is a downward trend, which was different before the operation for us!

Thank you everyone especially karma for the info! I woke up this mrng without the bloated distended full feeling I went to bed with and realized I had probably been taking in too much at one time and too often. I am so used to drinking a ton of water all day prior to surgery that I needed to reign back a bit. This mrng I got out my Tupperware drink shaker with the measurements on so I can time and measure better.

So blessed with this forum of friends to share with!!

Just stopped to see my surgeon to get a sick note for work. He was so happy to see me doing so good. I asked him about how much I should be able to hold etc. He said liquids are not restricting but food will be. He said they have a gauge that runs 30-40 of some kind of measurements and he did mine a 36 which is about the size of a thick ink pen. I can start soupier foods tomorrow. Looking forward to farina with peanut butter.
