The procedure itself takes only around 60 minutes. I had 3 tiny incisions and one site with a drain. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days. The drain came out at my first post-op appointment 1 week after surgery.Hope this helps

I'm older and started off larger than some (300 on surgery day). My surgery took about 2 hrs. I had 5 incisions, one for the drain. I was in the hosp 2 nights and my drain came out in 9 days but that was a scheduling mixup it should have been 7 days.
Once it's done you'll need time off work. How much varies by your age, physical condition, how you tolerate pain and surgery in general, what job you have. I was doing elder care and took a month because I needed to be able to move her. Some here with desk jobs go back in a week (sturdy souls, they!). In general I'd plan 2 wks min at home just in case because you are very tired the first month (most folks anyway)...
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.
I just had my surgery on July 24th, mine took about a hour and a half, I have 2 incisions, one across my belly button and then a small one that was for the camera. I was in the hospital 1 day, I didnt have a drain, and I went back to work on the 30th of July.
I had my surgery on 6/25/12 and also had my gallbladder removed, & hiatal hernia repair. I believe my surgery took about 1 1/2 hours, & I had 5 small incisions (the largest one being about a 1/2 inch & the rest are pretty tiny). I was in the hospital for 2 nights, & had very minimal pain. I returned to work at 2 weeks because I have a desk job. No complications to speak of other than mild acid reflux which stopped when I was able to swallow pills & start back on my prilosec. I am very happy with my sleeve!
To all those who said welcome thank you
Thank u
I was sleeved on 7/24/12 and have 5 very tiny incisions across my upper abdomen and 1 slightly larger one through which the excised stomach was removed. My procedure was done by my surgeon using the Da Vinci Robot and took about 90 minutes. I was kept in the hospital two nights because I have an autoimmune condition which slows healing, so my MD wanted to be sure I was stable before letting me go home. I had a catheter the first night, plus leg compresses to massage my legs to make sure no clots developed. I didn't have any drainage to remove, so I was very comfortable at home once I was released. Everyone's experience is different so just follow your MD's and his nurses orders and you will do just fine.
The procedure itself takes less than an hour. The recovery time post-op really depends on the person. I had a horrible night the night of my surgery but went home the next day and after about a week I felt great. The process leading up to the surgery can be long and daunting depending on your insurance requirements but it was well worth the wait and all of the doctor/dietitian appointments! It's not an easy route to take but for me it was what my body needed to allow me not to feel hungry all of the time. Hope this helps!
