I'm in the liquid phase (soup, pudding, etc.) but this is just awful
My question: if I slowly start eating stuff like mashed potatoes now (as opposed to 5 days from now), what's the worst that could happen? Is it dangerous?

I was told I could have mashed potatoes 3 weeks post op but they had to be instant and they had to be soupy ... I found that even when I could eat them, my stomach wasn't ready just yet ...
The worst that can happen is your stomach will go into full reverse and you wind up getting sick ... which can cause you to rip a staple.
Really the important thing is you don't over do it on anything you try and remember to go slow to allow your body to give you cues. Take a bite and then give it a few mins to process. Your body will let you know if you are over doing it.
Many many thanks to all of you!
I must be weird ... because I really didn't mind the liquid/full liquid/mushy part of the eating plan ... LOL
I totally feel the same way! I am so sick of protein shakes. I have been drinking them since december! Im finding other ways to get my protein, Isopure, protein shots. I can't wait to be able to puree some chicken and mix it with pureed salsa and sour cream.
