Left shoulder pain...

3 weeks out and have left shoulder joint pain that goes up my neck with a deep breath. Does surgical gas last 3 weeks? I read on another site this cold be a sign of a leak? My next appointment is in 2 weeks wondering if I should move it forward. I have tried heating pad, ice, Aleve...nothing seems to make it go away. Suggestions?

The day I went back to work, 15th day after surgery, right after I ate lunch, I had the most terrible pain in my left shoulder and neck. My secretary thought I was having a heart attack and almost called 911 for me. It was GAS... I had not had any with the surgery and it sure surprised me, but when I called the doctor, he confirmed it. My secretary drove me home, I layed in the recliner, took a nap, when I woke up a bit of it started to pass and I felt better. I had the same pain for two weeks after surgery. This pain was worse than my surgical pain and very much like other laparoscopic gas pains I'd had in the past. They had just not lasted that long. I did contact my doctor who ordered a blood test to rule out a leak. My pain went away when they removed my drain at two weeks. I would contact your doctor to rule out any complications. From my doc's perspective, that pain for that long wasn't normal.

I got some tips for you:
- Have your shoulder rest as much as you can for several to improve the healing.
- Elevate the shoulder using pillows in order to decrease pain and swelling.
- Keep correct posture in order to support the quick healing of your shoulder.
- When suffering from shoulder pain, keep the elbow on the side in order to let the shoulder take a break.
- Apply some simple stretching exercises for neck to support the treatment of shoulder pain.
