I have been walking a mile daily since sugery. Alsa the weather today was NOT cooperative.by 9:30 tonight I was going CRAZY. i needed to.move my body. I carefully climbed onto my very dusty stationary bike and started to pedal, very slowly & cautiously at first gradually gaining speed and intensity. Before I knew it I was pedaling 15mph for 20mins. Longer than I ever have on that dusty old bike. I am so proud of myself. I have fought exercise like this for years. Now its all my body wants. A surprisingly happy change.

3.2 miles today walking with the family on the greenway near our house. The last mile and a half the hubs and I had to carry the girls. Oh goodness....piggybacking the 4 year old added a good 35lbs weight to my walk. yay.

Tonight I work about 5-6 hours. I've taken an average of how much walking I tend to do at work. I walk about a half mile during a 3 hour shift. So, hopefully, I'll get another mile in at work.
    1st Goal - get to 170 by Sept 8th - I got close at 178.

NOPE! First real stall that lasted a week. Ended 9/24 at 173. It's all good. Wait....nope. Still going.

Passed 170 and straight to 169 on 10/9/13

    2nd Goal - get to 150 by December 1st - got to 156...close, I'm not complaining.

So close...Now I have to wait for baby in January!

OK, I'm coming back. Thursday: 3 mile "vigorous" walk, with permission of plastic surgeon. I was wiped out yesterday but did manage a very gentle and limited private pilates lesson. Didn't even break a sweat. Today, I took 3 separate 1.5 mile walks which is easier on my body than the long one. Less than a week and I can get back to cardio but I need this seroma to kind of fully heal up too. I'm ready!

John, that is pretty quick recovery. I am sure you can't wait to run though.

I didn't exercise yesterday and did a 30 mins jog this evening. Will a few more short jog this week before Sunday's half marathon. I hope it is not too cold.

Morning. No exercise on Saturday, which is my day off, my step count was pretty low too. So I was a slug!

Yesterday went to Zumba and then later DS and I went to Bass Pro Shops to browse, big place so lots of walking.

Not sure about tonite, I will try to get a couple walks in today at work, but tonite is my support group meeting and I haven't been in MONTHS and the topic is a good one tonite so I should go.

Awesome job, everyone. For the last 3 days, I have been taking 3 1.5 mile walks per day for a total of 4.5 miles. IT is working for me as I ramp up my activity level back to where I was. I'm cleared for cardio on Wednesday -- too bad I'll be in a remote Alaskan village.

Help! I've been trying to get a habit of exercising daily but keep getting derailed by fatigue. I had surgery 5 weeks ago and I've been able to do 3-4x/week of cardio and 2x week strength training but some days I can't get off the couch (literally). I've been getting in my protein (about 80g) and fluids but still feel lightheaded when I stand up. Any advice? I really want to make exercise a daily habit and these couch days are derailing me. Thanks.

BC35, maybe you are doing too much too soon. Maybe try doing cardio 3 to 4 times a week, walk the rest of the week. Hold off on the weight training until a little later. I wasn't allowed to do heavy lifting for the first 6 weeks. Even after that, you have to be careful. Add weight training back when you have more energy.

I jog 15 mins on the treadmill and then 65 mins spin class.

Hi BC35. I choose to swim after my surgery because of a knee injury. But had to wait for clearance from Dr. of course. He gave it around week 5 and I was off. So the first time I got in the lap pool I was all cocky. Oh this is going to be a breeze I thought. Or I did laps 30 years ago no problemo. HA! It kicked my ass! I was barely able to do 10 laps and was panting so bad thought I was in real trouble. Then I got out of the pool. And almost passed out standing up. Very, very scarey. So im sitting in a chair by the side of the pool thinking about this. I had severe high blood pressure. And my body was completely screwed up after surgery. Duh. My BP was all over the place. So i had to watch that very closely. I was using muscles I hadn't used in years. Also I just had MAJOR surgery! What a dumbass I was.
I went back to the "drawing board" as it was. Started slowwwwww. Every day until going back to work I went swimming. But took my time. I did NOT push. I had horrible fatigue and still do at times. But I took it one day at a time and never pushed. And when i went back to work I swam whenever there was time to.
My first goals on this journey was to reach 199 lbs. and swim 2 miles(66 laps). And I did it! Slow and steady wins the race.
BC35 you just had major, serious surgery. You need to start slow and build up your stamina. It doesnt matter if someone else on this board is doing 2 miles running post 5 weeks surgery(which would be amazing). What matters is only you.
Stay with it and pace yourself. You are doing great by the way!!!!!
IT'S BEEN ALMOST TEN YEARS NOW SINCE MY SURGERY. AND IM STILL GOING STRONG!!!!!!

Haven't posted in awhile. Congratulations to all of us working so hard!!!! John you are doing so good. My sister in law lives in Alaska and is always after us to visit her. Some day.
Last week on a very, very busy day in PICU I used a pedometer to measure my walking around for 13 hrs. Good lord what a surprize. I walked 10 miles at work. No wonder I've been so tired! Lol.
So yesterday was a work day and today I'm leaving soon for the pool and my 2 miles. AHHH. Boy have I become addicted to "pool time". Now it just feels so good to push as hard as I can.
Also my bike riding has increased. My pool work is all upper body but my bike time is definitely lower and I get sore. Once again slow and steady will win my race. I try to do at least an hour on the river levee. Finally having cool weather here. Lol.

Jog for 8 mins on the treadmill (ran out of time). Then took a step class. I don't think I can find another person who run as little as I do before a half marathon. Running is just not my passion.
