    Default Drain ???

    Hello All,
Had my final pre-op appointment today and found out that I will have a drain in for a week. Yippie. I remember some of you talking about it.
I am traveling by car for about 4 hours the day after my release from the hospital (granted all goes well). Would love to know how uncomfortable a drain is? How and where do I put the "ball"? Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks for your input.

It's not uncomfortable at all... at least it wasn't for me... I had mine in for 3 days and then it was removed (didn't hurt) because I had to fly back home.. As far as what to wear??? I packed and wore maxi dresses and I also packed my spanx which are like a 2nd skin and I was sooooo glad I did because they provided me the extra support for my belly and felt great!! ..... and it held my drain ball up as well......

    Good Luck!!

I don't even know what ya'll are talking about, sounds like a shunt of sorts for fluids, the man-girdle the doc has me wearing prevents that, but I don't have a drain...well surgically implanted one at least...shrugs..lol.

My drain was removed prior to discharge to go home. It was in for 2 1/2 days. Mine caused mild discomfort in my upper diaphragm but I was ok with it...of course happy when it was removed

My drain was removed prior to discharge, as well. It wasn't painful, but it sure felt gross to me when the nurse removed it.

Leaving the hospital I ran the tube through my bra and kind of tucked it near my arm pit, and at home I had a zip up robe with pockets and I cut a slit in the back of the pocket and tucked the ball in there (I didn't want to wear a bra and underwear at home). In the shower I luckily had a shelf and a pocket in my shower curtain, since it felt weird just hanging there. One time I turned and jerked it off the shelf and it fell, but they had stitched it in pretty good, so it didn't do anything. I had to record my output (then they didn't even ask for it LOL).
