Default How much do you eat? for 5 months and after..

Hi all, I am wondering to see if I am on the same page as others, I was told to eat 4 to 6 ounces of food at a time, Some times I eat about 2, and sometimes I eat more, like I just ate 4 ounces of yogurt and still wanted more, but I just read on here someone said not to eat more then 4 ounces at a time, so I am just wondering for people who are 5 months or more out, about how much food you eat at once..
I feel I have stretched because I don't eat slow.. its too hard for me and unnormal, I eat at a normal pace.. its the only thing I do wrong..

I eat in like 5 minutes. haha so bad I know, It was just so hard to eat slow, my food gets cold and nasty and everyone is done eating before me, I felt like I had a handicap it was hard to get used to, I eat at the same pace I always did.. I just can't break the habit, so over an hour is better then me I just ate 4 ounces in less then 5. I really don't know if it stretches my stomach because sometimes I only eat 2 to 3 ounces depending on what it is at a time.
I guess I always worry I am stretching my stomach so I like to compare to others, and just because I don't eat slow, i think thats why I am worse off then everyone else

stomach stretching is not a worry for me. because i still 4 months out can still only eat the same amount of food as if surgery was days ago.. sometimes i wish i could eat more but know its for the best. i have learned to cope. but i still eat fast.

Some days I eat hardly anything and others I eat more. My stomach definitely tells me when I have had enough.

Don't worry about stretching your food w/ yogurt...they're talking about 4 oz. of solids. Do you drink while you eat? THAT can stretch your stomach.

has any on here ever had a stretched stomach? anyone ever known anyone???? i drink alot more than eat. some days i eat a small piece of protein and a veggie. for the last 3 nights ive been having 1 scrabbled egg and 1 slice of turkey bacon, and i almost have to force it down! i could really go 2 days without eating anything and it would not bother me..i don't..but i do know its possible. im afraid to let my body enter stravation mode so im always snacking, dried cranberries, sun flower seeds, even a cookie or brownie or 2 every blue moon...i also have cut out all rice breads and pastas. that makes for much more room. i do miss eating sandwiches tho...

Went to a check up class last week where they talked about stretched stomach...that's where I got the drinking+eating information from. I have also heard people on this forum talk about it; there's also a forum on Obesity Help for it where people talk about failed WLS which is really scary to me, and some people even try to get resleeved or get a GP later. So it definitely happens.

This is an interesting thread that explains how one could get there if they're not careful; luckily the author is aware of her issues:

no i don't really drink and eat.. if I am SUPER thirsty and can't wait i take a tiny sip and swish it around and swallow it.. other wise, I don't drink and eat, if I know I had a lot to drink and am out at a restaurant, I have a bit or two then pack my food up and eat it later but even that is rare.. its just I see people like Kay-Kay0222 who barely eats, but I am not like that..I eat about 2 eggs.. and am not totally full but am close... but it is true sometime I eat like chicken or meat and only get about 2-3 ounces, I just haven't gone back to my surgeon or dietitian... my surgeon wasn't very nice, I went to a military base for it so I got the surgery covered and I explained I was trying to work out but it was still hard for me (like my one month checkup) and he was like "NO this is unacceptable you need to be doing an hour of cardio every day 5 days a week blah blah blah" and him not being understanding has made me not want to go back, every time I have seen him he was like that..

I too miss sandwiches, I don't eat bread or pasta or rice at all, but I have taken half a tortilla and made a PBJ on it because I wanted a peanut butter sandwich so bad..
thanks for all the responses.. it is true some days I just want to eat and eat and eat.. others I don't but normally its eat and eat.. lol

oh ya.. duh I am an idiot I also don't chew my food to baby food consistency I try if I think about it, but that doesn't last very long, to food gets soggy and nasty, tasteless in my mouth, I weight my food out when I eat and start around 2 ounces and see how i feel

i think the doctors make our stomachs different sizes to.. i remember when having the surgery and they did the pouch test using the xray machine and i was told that i had a smaller pouch than some...not sure if it was purposely done or if it was a mistake. either way i couldn't over eat if i wanted to..i def can drink more than i eat. and i have started making smoothies with lots of veggies and fruit.

Tori - the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 there is a sleeve support group at Scott & white in the education annex building behind the hospital. You might try going and getting some support there since you don't care for your doc at Ft. Hood.

Kay-Kay, I dunno, we're all so individual. I know I definitely have a different outcome than you; I still get just as hungry and look forward to my meals and feel that I can eat more than some people.* Yet the bougie size? I've heard that it doesn't matter, and I've heard that it does. I don't think they know enough about this surgery yet to give definitive answers about a lot of it. BBarb put some good time and effort into analyzing the issues surrounding it:

    http://www.gastricsleeve.com/forum/t...ally-mean.html

*This is why I kinda laugh at people who say "eat everything, just in moderation" to me. If I could do that I wouldn't have needed the sleeve! I have tendencies where if I eat something (esp. w/ flour/sugar) I can easily keep on going, sleeve or not (refined carbs can be very soft and go down VERY easily) so I have to watch it, plan my meals, measure them, am accountable and keep to it as best I can. Luckily I did a 1 1/2 year stint w/out flour and sugar and strictly controlled portion sizes and it worked really well. It didn't last because I had a family member who was really dear to me die and I turned to food to cope, but I think w/ the sleeve it's easier and much more possible for the long term. I really don't want to go through the weight gain and loss again.

This doesn't mean I think that others shouldn't do what they're doing, eating everything in moderation, etc., just that we're all different and need to find what works for us.

Typically I will eat 3 oz (by weight) of meat and 1/2 cup veggies in a meal. There are some things that I will eat more of though, like shrimp. It takes more to fill me up generally and I think it's because they're so much softer than say chicken. I usually get those "serving for one" frozen veggies and microwave one with whatever meat I'm having. Sometimes I will have a cup or so of romaine with a little cheese, tomato, and dressing. There are times when I know I eat more than I should and they are usually at lunch meetings or when friends want to go out. I can eat a whole sushi roll usually, if it's a small one and not a big fancy one. If I add miso I can sometimes still eat the whole roll. I have to be careful because like everyone else I'm worried about stretching and sometimes I don' realize I'm full until I'm stuffed.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
