    Question Ounces per meal

    Hello,

Can someone help me figure the ounces per meal. I know we should be eating 6 ounces per meal but i need to know if we get to eat 6 ounces of protein then another 6 ounces of veggie or should we have a total of 6 ounces per meal which includes the meat or fish? Can I also eat more than 1 oz of fish or meat per meal? Please help....

Follow your doctor's orders. But remember that you must get your 70-80 grams of protein in first and, in my new experience, it is nearly impossible to add fruits, veggies or carbs at this point. At my stage, I should be having 4 - 6 tablespoons of food/meal. That means protein foods. I have not had the time, space or calories to add anything else. Yet I have met my protein target almost every day. If you only add 1 oz of protein? I don't see how you could be getting enough in.
Let me know how it goes!
    Hugs

I'm currently at 2 ounces a meal, max. 2-4TB. I could mix it up, and have 2 TB protein, 2 TB something else, but like Gayle mentioned the protein is hard enough to get in with only eating that. Most of the time, I eat just protein (like 2 oz tuna) at a time. Occasionally, I'll have 2TB protein, 2TB something else, or 3TB protein, 1TB something else, just to break it up.

From what I have read, most surgeon recommends no more than 4oz or 1/2 cup of food per meal. You should eat your protein first in each meal. 2oz to 3oz of lean protein, if there is room, then you can eat some fruits and vegs.

Maybe 6oz is slider food like yogurt, cottage cheese?

I can't eat 6 oz of meat or fish protein at one sitting at 10 months out!
To get your 70 gms min a day you need 10 oz total throughout the day.
I'd do it like this to start
    2 oz breakfast
    2 oz snack
    2 oz lunch
    2 oz snack
    2 oz dinner

Currently, at 10 months out, I am getting it like this:
    3 oz bfst
    2 oz snack
3 oz lunch with 1 cup butter lettuce
    2 oz snack
3 oz dinner with cooked veg
That gets me 91 gms spread out nicely.
I eat nothing with any calories or sf sweeteners after 6 pm at night. Just water or plain herbal tea. I eat breakfast about 5:30 am.
I personally feel best on at least 100 gms or more of protein so I also generally add a homemade proasis jello in there to get the extra 12 gms to get me up to about 103 gms a day. Not everyones bodies react the same but I've always needed a lot of protein to get by and almost no carbs if I expect to drop lbs. Different people, different things work.

6oz seems way too much at one sitting just one month out from surgery. I think I was limited to 1/4 cup at a time. some food is denser, and some smushes more (1/4 cup of jello is way different then 1/4 cup of chicken) so it is just guidance. Err on the side of smaller portions as I am not sure that early on I could always "feel" the full signal correctly.

I eat about 2-3oz per meal. I eat very similar to Grace!! In fact, Grace, you posted that on another question and I started following that. Thanks Grace!! 90-100 grams of protein worlds better for me. I'm 5 months post-op. When I go under 80 grams, I tend to stall on my weight loss! I eat about 1000 calories a day.

I am 21 weeks out now and I eat around 2-3oz of Protein & 2-3oz of vegs or fruit for 2 of the 3 meal everyday. Either lunch or dinner will just be 2-3oz of protein. I have gotten pretty good at just looking at the portion size and know what it will take to fill me up and I don't really need to measure it anymore.

It makes 6 - 1/2 cup servings, each with about 12 gms of protein. Comes out to about $1 a piece but I consider that a cheap snack myself... I imagine you could use any liquid protein but I prefer proasis because I can't use very many kinds of sf sweeteners due to bladder issues. Proasis has just stevia.
My niece makes them with some fruit but I'm fine with it plain.
