Default 4 months post op - I think I'm bad at this!

I was 267 when I started now I'm 214 so I've lost 53 lbs in 4 months, is this a decent amount for the sleeve, what is the average monthly loss, I am paranoid I am running behind others or that I wont get to goal. Has anyone ever had success witout following a strict regimen and just living their lives?

    starting weight:

Hi Alyse! My step dad also had the gastric sleeve and I know all to well the old ways can catch up to us fast! He lost over 200 lbs and now he's gained 100 + back! The doctors have given this to us as a tool to help achieve a healthier life. It's up to you in what you choose to do with it. With the sleeve people can actually expand their stomachs. There's numerous stories about people eating the same amount of calories as they did before the surgery. I was told the average person looses about 60% of their fat in a year. It's really up to you if you want to loose the weight faster and maintain when your finally stall. These words always stayed with me when my doctor was talking to me ... "People see the sleeve as a miracle worker. If that's what it was I would charge more." He's a funny guy, but i understood what he meant. You have to change your whole life in order for it to work right. Good luck and I wish you the best.

I think you look great that's still is over 10lbs a month. I have also noticed the closer people get to 200 and under it seems to slow down. Just keep eating your protein first, low carbs and lots of water.

You are doing great! As long as you keep losing aprox 10 lbs a month you will be down 100 lbs in under a year! I did not have to be Uber strict, i just lived the best i could and still do! If you stop losing, i would then crack down more with exercise and go low carb high protein for sure. I mostly ate that way anyway because it just made it easier! Follow A few guidelines that are easy to implement, like find little ways to increase your activity. Park farther away so you have to walk a little father to go into a store. Take a flight of stairs instead of an elevator. Dance more! Dance even if you are home alone listening to the radio! When we were heavier we learned to "conserve" our energy, now try to do the Opposite! Your Sleeve helps you to eat Small, but always be careful not to Drink added calories and Carbs- they add up fast and there are so many sugar free carb free alternatives that it just doesnt make since to Drink the bad stuff! Congratulations on your success so far and keep up the good work! Love Rainbow

I don't think there is an average. We're individuals and our bodies will have different paces. I just checked, I dropped 50 lbs in the 4 months post surgery, if it gives you something to go by. For me it slowed down a lot after that, to about 2 lbs a week for the next 3 months, then slower, in fact I stalled for 8 long wks. But I'm down 116 lbs overall in a year including pre-op and I'm happy, happy with that!
Just keep on keeping on and watch the carbs/calories don't creep in now that you can eat more easily and you'll be fine!
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

I think you're beautiful and you are moving forward very well. I agree w/my fellow-sleevers, Rainbow and Grace (2 very wise ladies. I will only add, you will find a balance between "food" and all that's associated with it; the social/emotional aspects. I try not to obsess about it, but rather plan and take it one day at a time. I'm 62, never been thinner (never been thin at all ever), active, and happy. I try to hold on to those feelings and just go on my merry little way; walking, exercising, eating well; just living life! Continued success and just try to "relax" and work the program.

You look great and you've lost over 10 lbs/month. That is better than average. You have received some great advice. I heard recently that a Dr. told a woman her expected weight loss is a 1 pound a day and should be down 100 pounds in 3 months! Wow...some people can do that, but there is so much criteria, such as age, starting weight, physical activity and medical conditions to consider. You can't compare yourself to others. I lost 5 lbs last month following the plan to the letter. At 6 months out and getting closer to goal weight, it is harder than ever to drop weight.

You look great! Just keep in mind ANY pounds lost is better than pounds gained. This is a change for life, it isnt a race. Do what you need to do and you will achieve your goals. You look wonderful!

Why do others loose the weight faster than others? It's my 19th day after the surgery and I only lost 8 pounds after surgery.

You are doing really well! I am losing approx 8-10 pounds a month now and as long as the scale is showing a loss I am happy. Don't worry about other people just concentrate on your loss.

The more you weigh to begin with the faster you lose. Starting at only 196 (I know you're thinking "Only?" but I started at 342) you're just not going to lose as fast as someone who weighs 300 lbs.

I thought I was losing slow too then I read a friends post on FB (to me she's an itty bitty little thing BUT) she's been dieting since February (of this year) on her own you know just eating right and exercising and she had only lost 18lbs!!!! 18 lbs. in 4 months - just think of what it would be like w/o your sleeve. I def have a more positive outlook on my weight loss now and hopefully this will help with yours too!
