My jaw hit the floor when I read what your Dr. said to you! Who does he think he is?? I've been in the medical profession and realize surgeons have the biggest egos on earth....but this is a new one! Talk to your primary doc and ask him to suggest someone or have him follow up with you. I would suggest turning him into the Ky state licensing board. He should not get away with this type of abuse.

You are a beautiful person and doing a great job. I'm down to my last 25 lbs and it has gotten very hard to lose at this point, but we just have to keep plugging away, increase our exercise and find what works. Good luck and remember we are all here for you!

Heck no, Grace! I would die on 400-500 calories a day lol. My breakfast alone this morning was nearly 400 calories... luckily, I only eat bacon and eggs occasionally! If I calculate my BMR like you did using the .75 for a lower metabolism, it says mine is about 1080 to maintain, which is right since I am satisfied with 800 - 900 a day, and I exercise 4 times a week (recently upped my cardio sessions from 40 to 50 or 60 minutes each).

As to the poster of this thread, I agree with everyone else on here. I would do some research in your area and looking for nutritionists who have experience working with bariatric patients, and possibly even a new bariatric surgeon, one who doesn't believe it's OK to mentally abuse their patients. Perhaps you could ask your primary care doctor if they have any recommendations for a new surgeon. Don't be discouraged -- everyone's body reacts to this surgery and the accompanying diet differently, and as healhcare providers, this is something they SHOULD already freaking know!

Ok. She is nuts. I am 33 weeks post surgery and have lost 137 pounds and am currently five pounds below my original goal. How have I done it? I follow three rules and thats it. First, no liquid calories. Second, I do not drink a beverage of any kind until about one hour after I consume my meal. Third, whatever food is on my plate, I eat the protein first and only move to the vegatable and finally the starch if I am still hungry. Period, that's all you need to do to be successful. I would guess that my calories range is between 800-1400 per day. I guarantee that if you do that consistently the weight has no choice but to fall off. I never feel deprived and I am never hungry. Don't be discouraged and don't listen too much to people that have not had the surgery and been successful. Their insight is too limited.

Hang in there!!!! Lately (with 17 pounds to go) I go from 162 to 165 every few days...can't seem to get past 162. Frustrating but I know that my body is in control and I will keep doing what I am doing. It has worked well for me so far. You are in my prayers...

Hello Kylady, I can understand why you keep going back to this nutritionist, because you hold him as knowledgeable and professional and he must know what he is talking about....right? My suggestion is .......get a second opinion! Give yourself something to go on other than just this nutritionist's advice. This is a VERY emotional thing you are going through. Maybe he is justified in some cases, but in my opinion/knowledge he is not justified in this case. Your body will begin to shut down on you, because it needs more calories. If you don't feed it enough, it will start to steal from your body's organs. YOU DO NOT WANT THAT!!! Bless you for being such a trooper and trying to do what the doc says....I hope all goes well....Let us know ok? Hugs

WHAT an ass! I would file a complaint. Is he board of excellance? if so file a compliant there too. He is a young prick...I looked up his pic! Dr. Hugh L. Houston, MD, Nashville, TN - General Surgery Centennial Bariatrics :: Meet Our Team :: Dr. Hugh L. Houston Looks like there are two other docs in practice I would ask to go see one of them for follow ups. ALSO just to make his life hell I would go to all his patient seminars and tell everyone what an ass he is!

Tonya, please report this so called doctor to the medical board. You will be helping not only yourself but other patients to not be subjected to verbal abuse.

Im going to. I actually called and did some complainging today. I will make it through it. Was told it was said in a joking manner. No harm meant. I go back for regular visit in a mths which will probly be my last. Will tell him how I feel. I like to go prepared author knowledge myself. Sad thing is I really liked and respected him. I pretty much feel that he looks me like im a loser. He knew my complete background. No silver spoon here growing up. Anyways I went back to gym today and of course knees swelled. I also tried swimming. It hurt kicking my legs. Any cardio tips? I have to refocus off of the doc and all. Thanks everyone. Trust me I will handle it. Don't want anyone mad. When my bill is paid off that is when I will have better options.

Can you try water walking? No kicking that way and still gets your heart going. Just go in to your rib cage, drag your arms and push through back and forth.

I had surgery on 1/9 and have only lost 35 pounds since surgery in 5 months. My doctor has been supportive. I know I have a food addiction but he encouraged me to attend groups and to get back on track. He has me coming in every 6 weeks to weigh and check in so he can encourage me to stay on plan. It's not you that's messed up, it's your doctor. Not all of us lose 70 pounds in the first 6 months (though I'd be happy to be in THAT group ) Some of us heal differently, lose slower, etc. I get hungry. I have never had a lot of restriction and only the first few months was the hunger truly absent. You shouldn't have to feel embarrassed by your doctor or given an impossible plan by your nutrititionist. We all struggle at some point with our weight loss. When I see people post about how easy it is and how the rest of us are stupid (not on this board, but on others) I always think they are trying to kid us and themselves. There is nothing easy about this. It's tougher for some than others but it ain't easy for nobody. It's extremely difficult without support. I'm sorry you are being treated this way. It's not fair and not right.
