    Default Too much to fast

Well leave it to Mrs. Impatient! Got home from the hospital on Thursday and laying around today got the best of me. I know I need to keep walking to get the rest of this gassy feeling out of me so I decided while everyone was gone to work I would make homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs and surprise everyone with a nice dinner. (Hubby is Italian so when we make spaghetti sauce it's by the gallon) Bad idea! The thought was nice but body was just not ready! Got it about 80% done when my daughter got home and boy did I get my but chewed out. She was right though, it was too much to soon and boy can I feel it. I don't know what I was thinking...it's not like I can even have spaghetti yet!

After 2 weeks I was eating broken up meatballs....at least you can have those soon!

Be careful, you have the rest of your new healthy life to accomplish great things, stop trying to do too much at least for 2-3 weeks more....

You were thinking you just wanted to make your supportive family a favorite dinner, that's all
It's hard for us to sit still and heal, but in the long run it's of course the best way to be there for our families longer.
As for meatballs and sauce, this Italian still has trouble with them. They have to be very soft and mushed, even at 9 months out.
And hubby is always teasing me I'm the only Italian he knows who just can't eat pasta. My red sauce and meat go on spaghetti squash now.
And you know what, I actually like it, a lot!

This is your time to rest... take it easy. The 3rd weeks was a turn around week for me, I felt good and wanted out and get moving. Give it time you are doing great. It's true that every doctor is different and you are different on what you can and can't eat and do. I focus on staying away from pasta-rice-bread - steak... everything else no issues for ME.. I am 4 weeks out and 35 lbs down, up to walking 2 miles most days. Feel great ! keep in touch..... one day at a time

Wow! You are so ambitious!!! My kids went to the store and picked out some meals they would like me to make or that they could make themselves. Yesterday they chose Hamburger Helper Philly Cheesesteak...can you believe it!??!? Well, whatever makes them happy! My daughter missed me so much that she barely ate anything when she stayed at her friend's house for about 4 days while I was gone for surgery. She was nervous about my surgery and if she would see me again..she's 11. Well, yesterday, she came home and nibbled on food alllll day! Her Chex Mix looked pretty darn good. I didn't have even a bite of it. Yay me! I gave her a mini mani-pedi and we spent time just sitting together, doing small chores, or taking short walks with our puppy. I am on clear liquids and protein shakes until the 8th when I see the surgeon again at which time I will probably be allowed to have pureed protein instead of, or in addition to protein shakes. Wow, I would love to see what everyone else's diets are! I was on clear liquids/protein shakes 2 WEEKS prior to surgery...I'm ready to crunch something! lol

Xtac66 I was on liquid protein diet for 15 days prior to surgery. The day of surgery and day after clear liquids only. Then the day I went home was moved to full liquids. All though I don't really have an appetite which is expected. I think yesterday I managed to get down 2 tbsp of cream if wheat ad 2 tbsp of cream of potato soup and my liquids. Dr. called yesterday to check in and see how things were going and explained to her what I had to eat and she said not to worry about eating the 4oz per day just yet that it would take some time. Most important thing was fluids and try to include a protein drink in there when I can, even if it's a few sips at a time.

Grace - that sounds so good! We plant spaghetti squash every year and that is one thing I am really looking forward to. Hey and I even got 5 gallons of spaghetti sauce frozen and ready for that day. . I'm really looking forward to just having beverages, especially grilled veggies! By the time I'm ready to try them they should be ready to be picked.

That's awesome. Yesterday, I managed to get about 20 oz of crystal light in along with three 4 oz protein shakes. It is getting easier! I like keeping up with you because we had surgery the same exact day!

Me too! It's nice to share experiences with someone who had surgery the same time. Thanks for being there! I am really missing crystal light since my surgery....for some reason every flavor I have tried gives me instant heartburn. I am hoping as time goes on I will be able to go back to drinking them again.

Wow, that's crazy! I didnt drink any of it prior but had some lemonade and peach tea in the hospital. I love the peach tea! I have some raspberry ice here at home but wondering if I should stay away from red dye. I noticed in the hospital everything they brought me was NOT red!

Good morning Sonja, are you allowed protein shakes this soon after surgery? I wish I could have them but everything I do must be clear liquids for another 5 days....

I was surprised Brie...2 days post op the dietician brought my clear liquids breakfast and 5 minutes later brought me a protein shake and said the doctor just bumped me to phase II. I'll take it! 4-6 oz three times a day.

They gave me any color popscicles and jello, and I can have any color protien liquids just cannot be shakes....nothing thick like shakes...dieticians said anything as long as if in a clear glass you can see thru the liquid then it is considered clear liquids.

Becky, I can so see myself doing that! lol I know my husband was ready to go on a bike ride like a week after surgery - I thought he was crazy! He did wait a few more days but it is inspiring that you all feel so good that soon after surgery that you are ready to give it a try! I hope I am that ambitious! =)
