Most hospitals make you sign a wavier saying they are not responsible for anything.. Dont bring anything with you except a change of clothes and a good book..

Hi Shauna, I had surgery with Dr. Almanza last August. Congrats on your decision this team was wonderful and I would do it again. As far as your belongings they are kept in the pre-op room with you until you go to surgery. After surgery you will go back to your room and those things will remain with you after that. My friend and I had no problems. Hope that helps.

Brian I would except I am flying and will have those things with me when I get there. So I wondered if they had a locker system or what we did with our belongings while we were in surgery. I never see anyone post information on that. Now that my mom is traveling with me, I plan to leave it all with her.

How about using a suitcase that has a combination lock on it. You can lock your purse and valuables inside and not worry. My mother came with me when I had surgery in Mexico; I never gave it any thought.

At Almanza's "clinic", which is actually just a store front in a strip mall (across from a Porn Shop), your luggage gets unceremoniously dumped in a hallway on the first floor, you are spirited away to the second floor, and your stuff just sits there, unattended, the whole time you are in surgery and recovery. You are in NO CONDITION to get it your stuff together post-op, either. You can't even keep a bag or anything with you, as it will be left in the pre-op waiting room and you may never see it again. LOCK YOUR BAGS. If you have a lap top along, keep it locked up. Fair warning.

Just a heads up, make sure you lock your bags AFTER your flight. If your bags are locked before your flight the TSA will cut them off and you will be without working lock. That happened to me the last time I flew.

    Pochita,
As I said, your bags will be dumped in a hallway. If you bring your purse with you upstairs, you have to leave it there, in a pre=op waiting room, while you go for your EKG, your consultation, and eventually your surgery. You can't bring your purse into the operating room with you. I left my laptop in that room, and it was almost impossible to get it back. You wake up in a recovery room downstairs, and you won't have access to any of your stuff until you leave for the recovery house the next morning. Don't assume the nurses who take care of you that first night speak English, because they don't! I was worried sick about my luggage because I had all of my cash in there. It was intact when I finally saw it again, but I don't recommend anyone else take chances like that. There are ALL KINDS of people coming in and out of that place, and the bags are right there on the floor. NOT a good setup. They need to buy lockers or something. Good luck!

There's no point of bringing anything. You'll be too drugged up to care about reading, watching tv, or anything else besides sleeping. Your day will consist of sleeping, being forced to drink water, walking, water, walking, water, and more walking, and sleeping. You will not need anything until you're ready to go home. Good luck the first two weeks are the hardest.

Hermoojesty said it all that is exactly what they did with our luggage I was not happy about it but no body touched it so in the end I guess I worried about nothing.

And if you have someone with you I assume you can just leave everything with them. Where do they hang out while you are in surgery?

On my surgery day, a girl had brought her husband. Since the clinic staff cook and eat constantly, he went into a dining room and ate the whole day while we were getting operated on, one by one. Since the recovery house had space, he was allowed to stay with his wife one night, but they got all indignant at the slovenly treatment and stormed off to a hotel. The "staff" at the recovery house consisted of a nurse who doesn't seem to understand the value of hand washing or gloves or aclohol, a bunch of men who do whatever, and at least three and sometimes four women who do absolutely nothing but cook for each other and the rest of the "staff" from dawn til dusk and beyond. Enormous trays of food are sitting on the counter at all times. The smell of their hot oil burning, and the peppers or whatever spice they used permeated the entire place made me sick to die. All of us were complaining of the smell of their cooking, but the "staff" had a great time laughing and eating outside at a picnic table while we writhed in pain waiting for our next dose of pain medication. Which turned out to be nothing but an anti-inflamatory. They sat around that picnic table and had a regular little fiesta while we sat, bitching, waiting for our scheduled shots. When we said, "Hey, we're waiting here." The nurse replied, "Well, let them wait" and took another half hour. Somebody called the liason in Miami to complain, and he got a dressing down over the phone from her, and our shots were finally forthcoming. Not that they did much good. Be sure to bring plenty of alcohol and INSIST that the nurse uses it. I wish I had spent another grand and had the surgery done in a hospital. That place is an infection waiting to happen and an awful experience. Sorry, but it's TRUE!

    Gettinthin,
Yeah, I'm really glad I decided on the sleeve. I just wish I had coughed up more cash and had it done in a hospital so I would have had proper pain management and better after care. It was a pretty miserable experience but after all, I did choose the cheapest doctor on the entire internet, and this was a case of getting exactly what you paid for.
