    Default Phentermine?

Will the doctors prescribe phentermine (or another appetite suppressant) to help you get through the pre-op diet phase?

I don't think so. The object is to prove to the insurance company that you can follow a plan...not that you need drugs to do so. And most of us had to stop most medications (ibuprofen, aspirin, and most vitamins) before surgery anyway. You can do it...the goal is worth it!

How close is your surgery date? Like it was said before all meds (herbal and otherwise) need to be stopped before hand. Also you can get phentermine on line
    I'm just saying.
I know its hard. I am hoping that the sleeve will be my new and improved phentermine... no script needed

I'm a self-pay patient. I don't have a surgery date, yet. My EGD will be on 3/28 and it will take another week to get the results. Once the results come back OK, I will receive a surgery date (probably end of April or early May). I want to start dieting so that my doc won't have to postpone the surgery date because of any pre-op dieting phase. I was just wondering if I should ask the doc for a phentermine prescription. But since I may have to stop all meds, I think I'll just try my best to diet on my own. Thanks for the input!

I was also self pay, had my sleeve on 3/11 and although my Dr. had given me a 2 week pre-op diet, I must admit I didn't follow it at all! There were 2 days of the 14 that I actually even drank the protein shakes but I had this "get it while I can" attitude and I felt like every meal was the last supper! He wasn't looking for me to lose any weight pre-op, the diet was just to reduce the size of the liver to make the surgery easier. Well, the surgery went fine and he never even asked if I had followed the diet. I went into surgery at 241, and I guess I was rationalizing that at my bmi of 36, it was the people with bmi's of 40+ that would have to follow that diet. I know I probably shouldn't even put that out there, but I'm just saying that if you are cash pay, the rules are a little different.
