Psychotropic Meds

Hello all:

9 years ago I was diagnosed with depression, post traumatic stress disorder and ADD and I take meds for these ... Lexapro, Klonipin and Concerta.

Anyone else on the board that uses psychotropic drugs? If you have already been sleeved, did the medications cause a slower weight loss?

Hi Kelley, I think you should discuss these medications with your surgeon and with your therapist. Even if others here in this forum have taken these types of meds, their experiences will probably be different. I doubt very much you'll find a "one-size-fits-all" answer. Best wishes.

HI Kelley, I'm with Diane. However I do have bipolar depressive and take several meds for depression and anti-psychotic ones as mood stabilisers. My psyche said I can crush the meds however he will be monitoring me very carefully with regard to my moods, food etc. We are expecting a reduction in meds however,in my case, it is a wait and see. Thank you so much for the input Diane and Sheryl. I actually did discuss the rate of weight loss with the surgeon and was told I would still lose even on these medications. Just me worrying a bit too much I think.

It is understandable, I think we all find things to worry about before the surgery. It think it is natural to wonder "oh, what about this" and "what about that".

I think the nurse was surprised when she briefed me on the details of the operation and then asked me if I had any questions and I said "No" and she said "well that is a change from normal" and then I said "well, I figure you guys know what your doing and try to not kill any of your patients", but when it came to the day of the surgery, I was a total wreck and no matter of comfort was going to make me not worry.

I'm on an anti-depressant and a mood stabilizer and it hasn't effected my weight loss at all. :}
