Default Anyone Grieve the Loss of Eating a Poor Diet/Large portions?

When I typed out that title I thought to myself "ugh how pathetic does that sound?". But every once in a while I get a twinge of sadness that I no longer can eat a full plate of pasta & garlic! Then I snap back to reality as I would NEVER go back.

It's just those occasional moments, you know? Anyone else?

Me too. We are having boiled crawfish tonight. Having some friends over. When we were placing the order for the crawfish my hubby said, "How many pounds do you want?" I thought for a second and said I'll just eat from yours. Kinda sad, I used to order 10 pounds for myself. Love rockin my sleeve!

You know, it doesn't happen as often as I thought it would, but it does happen. Sometimes things just taste so good and I want to eat more, but I feel so full and know if I eat another bite I'll be sick. I've learned to slow down to stretch the moment, to sit with fullness. I think because I'm approaching this from a much more moderate perspective (I'm not dieting; I am living a lifestyle; I've cut nothing out of my diet - I just eat very carefully 80 percent of the time and have small portions of what I want), I don't have these thoughts of grief very often.

yeah - friends and I are heading to a new restaurant opening here in london Tuesday night - I know the food will be excellent and the champagne will be flowing. I think more than the food, not drinking the bubbly will be hard. But I wouldn't have it any other way. And when I am thin(ish) I want to remember that this wasn't easy, to keep me on track.

Yep for sure. It's like losing a life long best friend that really turned out not to be good for us. I'm third day in and I can think of a few things I'd rather have than the soup I'm having but I like what the scale is telling me.

Absolutely. I was embarrassed to admit that, so I'm glad you posted this so I can finally admit it. LOL! It's not all the time, and it's short living, but yes, sometimes I do grieve it. I've even said if only I could have ONE more big huge meal. Then I'm like "NO WAY!" I'm so happy with my Sleeve, I don't want to do anything to ruin it.

I think every one of us goes through moments of food mourning. I'm almost a year out from my first surgery and I still have the occasional moment of grieving for my past food intake. I don't know if those moments will ever go away completely, but now all I can do is recognize how I'm feeling and just deal with my current restrictions. Luckily, the sleeve allows for a little more satisfying bites and tastes than the RNY does, so you can eat a little bit of almost anything you wish.

My sleeve is less than 40 days away. This was a very good post! I have been concerned what living without my comfort foods would be like. You all have given me some hope: that having the sleeve is by far better than the foods I will miss! Thank you for posting!

yes, I miss it at times. I have figured now that I can eat just a little less than one full egg sizes portion in a sitting, so about 1/4 cup. More than that and up it comes. That doesn't make for a very extensive meal. But when I see the scale move almost every day, it's all worth it. I know I'll hit a stall again but because it is phyically impossible for me to get fed-up and cheat, I am feeling confidence that I will actually get down to a normal weight for the first time in decades!

My hubby and I went out for lunch yesterday to Applebee's. I had that moment you described as I was sitting there watching him eat this beautiful plate of pasta while I sipped my tomato basil soup. It only lasted for a second and I snapped myself out of it.....but those ugly thoughts raise their head oevery once in a while.
