    Default Hello UK sleevers!

Looks like this part of the forum isn't too active, but hopefully people will come out of the woodwork.

Just had a consult today at BMI Blackheath and am going for the sleeve. Not going to wait for NHS- I just don't want to wait another day- and am paying for it myself.

    Your experiences?

    Hi PenBB

I had my surgery on Friday with Mr Mannur. Came home yesterday and am now looking forward to starting my new life. What a wonderful surgeon he is . Got to say the flipping gas was a bit more painful than I had bargained for but a couple of days of discomfort will be worth it in the end.

How much have you lost so far?

Hey, i had mine via the NHS and Mr Gopinath from The north east did mine. What an excellent surgeon, i have the sleeve done on the monday and was home on the wednesday. Been struggling somewhat with different foods to eat, but overall i'm coping well. Going back for my first check up shortly, and hopefully will know if i'm doing good then

Anyone got any tips on sauces to add to foods to give flavour?

Hello! I'm brand new to this forum. Had my sleeve on 4th feb, also by Dr Gopinath at North Tees. I had a bit of a hard time, still am with wind, feels like my chest is being crushed! Ended up having a blood infection too :-(
Had an X-ray cos the pain in chest was so severe. Still on puréed food and trying new things. Seems I'm not liking sweet things like yoghurts etc :-/
Well, jus wanted to say hi and any help/advice would be appreciated as this is a little scary for me.
    Bye for now :-)

Hiya had my surgery 5th novebember 2012. I now call that my birthday as that was when my life started again. I dont regret the operation at all. I have lost 54lbs, and am feeling great. Yes it was inconvient the before and after diet for the operation. But in long term it was worth it. Feel 10 years younger. Yes have a little hair thinning but, dont even mind that as I feel so good. I had my operation at Homerton Hospital Hackney London.

Barbara thanks for sharing about not having regrets.. I am British lady living in North Carolina and have only been here 2 years. I have put on a shed load of weight due to me wanting to try out all the southern fried cooking... And not to mention the sugar high fructose corn syrup in everything which we don't have in England. Bit concerned about my hair thinning as it is already thin.. Had a friend warn me today about the risks of this operation. My resolve has been good but her story worried me tonight ..but all said out of concern for my well being so it is good to hear your positive comments ..keep in touch if you like Hev

Good luck with your surgery Heather. Try not to sweat the hair loss - it's a small and temporary price to pay for good health. My hair is thinning, but it will stop. Meantime the rest of me is looking very healthy!

Hey I am Heather...(Hev) I see you have had your sleeve done..how are you finding it? I am British and live in America..been here 2 years..and it's not something that I had ever heard of in England. Only since living here in North Carolina have I discovered this. I am to have my op on march 25.
So where abouts are you in England . I saw you mentioned Blackheath...I used to live in Dunsfold in Surrey not far from where they filmed top gear.
If you have any tips from your journey of do's and don'ts I would be happy to hear..good luck with your journey and let me know how you get on..all the best Heather

All the time I lived in England this procedure was not an option so I am glad for you that the NHS covered it. I now live in USA but but still British! our high priced insurance pays a percentage and I pay the rest. So how is it going for you? Did you find any sauces..did you read on here in the latest activity heading? There are sections on here about what people are eating and if you can't find them look in the groups..I found some the other day. I am to be sleeved on 25 March and wanted to get an idea of what I could eat.
Let me know how you are doing..good luck on your journey Heather (Hev)
