It's an adjustment Kelly but you can do it, we all had. I wont lie and say it was easy because it sure as heck is not but like they say nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

I lost 18 pounds since my surgery (April 4) and just this last week just a day or so into my purred foods I gained over a pound and stalled till this morning. I lost that pound (really 1 1/2 lbs). I know I wasn't eating enough to gain but I thought with losing that much in a few weeks that my body was catching up. Just had to be. I was on liquids for 1 week and I am only on purred foods for 2 (less then one week to go....yay!) then soft foods till my 8th week. I feel full when eating but I still want food later and my stomach feels empty alot. Fast food doesn't sound good at all. I snack in between on sugar free jello pudding, sugar free jello or Italian Ice (my favorite). At least the jello and Italian Ice can go toward your liquids. I have trouble getting my water in over the day but I am trying to get better at it. Water really doesn't fill me up much. I was just happy to see the lower numbers this morning. Hopefully it will keep going. I also drink Isopure drink for my protein and it gets those liquids in me. I use crystal light too in my water but I haven't found one that thrlls me yet. Sometimes when I eat tho I don't fill up as fast as i think I should but it is still heck of a lot less then what I ate before. Just hang in there and I feel for ya because I feel the bad habits still in my head...I smell foods I loved before and they aren't even in the house. I have been craving pizza since the day I came home and I didn't even eat it that much before. I think once I am on soft foods maybe those things will go away. Something funny happened to me my first night home, I dreamed of Ky Fried Chicken and DQ Buster Bars (they are not a favorite of mine either)....I don't know why I did this but I laugh about it all the time. I miss one thing in the evening most of all....my Sun Chips. I don't allow them in the house right now and I don't allow my husband to fix a pizza right now...LOL. So see we all have our battles and it is sure nice to come out here and vent.
Hi Kelly, like every one else here--happy meals and pizza--how can you even get that stuff down? I am full on 2-3 bites of solid food. I focus on getting protein in first, which means I am often too full to eat veggies, which come next, or carbs, which are last. I am 6 weeks out today and it was my mother's birthday. My son wanted to pay for the family to go out to dinner and they chose Chinese. I had one strand of chow mein, one small brocolli floret, one slither of lemon chicken, and two black bean shrimp. No rice. I was stuffed. Had I eaten one more bite it would have all come right back up. It has taken me a lot of time to learn to listen to my new tummy. When it says it's full, IT'S FUL!!!! No joke! if I try to keep eating I get loads of slimy saliva coming up and then I throw up my food. I get a pain and great discomfort in my stomach area and it takes forever for me to feel comfortable again. I have learned that when I feel comfortably full, I stop no matter how much food is left on my plate. I also have found that even though I can tolerate solids somewhat, I still do better on soft foods or purees. I know we're all different, but if this is where I am at 6 weeks post op, where should you be at only 3 weeks post op? I think you need to slow down a little and re-evaluate your eating. Have you considered myfitnesspal.com ? I have found this site to be very helpful for a lot of diet related topics, and also a great place to log my daily food intake. Good luck.
I thought this site was for support, doesn't seem like thats the case. I'm sure some of you are perfect and never screw up. I have my list from my surgeon and without the bad stuff I am eating what I'm supposed to. Just cause your surgeon says something different, doesn't mean anything to me. Thank you very much Fluffy, Rebecca50, Monica, Shawk,Teresa, and Snappy for your support and encouragement. I understand that I wanted this surgery, and need to work hard. I plan on doing that.
Dont get down on yourself. I had surgery the same day as you and I havent been perfect either =).. I had a few bites of real icecream one day.. and a few bites of a tim hortons breakfast burrito another day... sh*t happens. You arent going to die lol. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep moving forward. Good luck dear =)
I start week 4 today and I also just hit a stall for the last 4 days. I know people say it is expected to happen but I also think it's the food I've taken in lately. I'm in purred foods and I have mainly protein drinks, cottage cheese, & Greek yoguart but I had some mashed potatoes, mashed beans, and some rice which is all on my ok list. I think these foods have hindered me these last couple of days so I'm going to avoid them for now on. Thanks Sara and Jerome for your info.
This highlights just how different things are from one surgical team to the next, because I started on soft foods (baby food) on D11 after I got out of the hospital and solid foods 5 days later. If the stomach couldn't have broken it down, I don't think my transition would have been as smooth as it was and I think it would have had real issues. Your surgeon may have gone a wee bit overboard with trying to scare you into following the straight and narrow path.
Kelly, we all agree that it's a constant struggle to follow an eating plan, but it's truly designed to help you lose weight and that was the whole point of the surgery right ? Keep in mind how healthy you want to be next time you go by McD's. I know I do and I end up making the right choices - most of the time, lol.
My jaw dropped and my tummy cramped up! I am starting week 3 and can't imagine putting pizza or McD's in my mouth unless i was going to spit it out!!! I can barely eat 1/4 cup of soup at this point! My cheat only cheat was a tiny bite of cheesecake pancakes from IHOP that made me super sick, think it was too sweet.
I think people will support you in different ways. Some will seem harsher, but that doesn't mean they're being unsupportive. I think we all realize how hard it is to stick w/the plan no matter what stage we are post-op. I'm almost one year and almost to goal, and still struggle some days. I've been a little hungrier lately and taken "small bites" of foods that I thought I'd never taste again, birthday cake, frozen yogurt, etc. I got lazy about tracking, planning, etc., but today is a new day and I've taken back control of the plan. I've written down my foods, planned the meals for the rest of the week, and tonight I might just have one baby spoonful of frozen yogurt when my husband snacks. I won't feel guilty because it's just a "smidgen" and tomorrow is zumba...lol... I promised myself that I wouldn't look at this as another diet, but I'm beginning to "cheat" just like I used to do on diets, therefore; I'm taking back control and moving forward. I'm so happy w/my loss and health, that I am assessing it again and taking control instead of foods controlling me... Continued success and just play w/the toy from the happy meal and leave that yucky food
