I havent had the surgery yet but from the classes I have had to take they keep drilling it our heads that protein is important and if you dont get in enough you will have hair loss.

I do all my protein and I've lost a ton of hair. Some of us are affected by the surgery more than others. I cut my hair shorter, and am using nioxin. Something I keep forgetting to do but should be done is rinse with cold water after washing. It helps to close the pores.

I get between 80-100 grams of protein in a day and my hair just started falling out! And I drink at least 64 ozs of water a day if not more. I just started biotin. I asked my hair stylist about losing hair and she said that surgery does weird things to hair. She had someone that her hair went from straight to curly 4 months after surgery and then within a year her hair went back to straight. She said that taking biotin can't hurt.

I don't think there is anything that prevents the body from rebelling from major surgery. I wish there was.

Do you think its the surgery that makes the hair fall out or the nutritional side of it?

It just happens, the shock of surgery and the meds they use... nutrition matters in the long run but I think we are either going to lose it or we aren't and most of us are. I did everything "right", vitamins, biotin, protein, zinc, knox gelatin, nioxin products. My hair loss started at 4 months and ended at 6 months. I'd get what felt like handfuls in the morning, it was actually more like 30-40 hairs all at once, but all being long it sure was scarey. It would ebb and flow and now I don't think I'm losing any more than before surgery. I'm still doing all the above and it is looking like things will be ok. I have tiny short hairs if I look hard at my scalp, so it's starting to come back. It's a small price to pay....

I had a major meltdown in the shower this morning - I said before surgery "oh I won't have any hair loss, I didn't lose a single hair after my Lap Band" ... WRONG! I'm right at the 3 month mark and last week in the shower I started pulling out handfulls of hair when I would shampoo it. I've always had super thick hair and my hair is my "thing" I always get compliments on how I do it and now I'm freaking out because it's falling out like crazy! I'm thinking about cutting it into a cute A-line since I've hit the 50 pound mark and it will be a new "me" but it's so scary to cut 7+ inches off! I'm hoping it slows down as I've been taking my multivitamin, B complex, iron, and biotin daily Does anyone know if there are any products that can help speed up the hair regrowth? But I did tell my husband this morning that if me getting healthier and happier means having thinner hair - I will take it because health is more important!

Each time you have anesthesia it affects your hair. That, and the MAJOR change your body is going through has something to do with it. I get my protein, take a hair and nail supplement, biotin, multi, vitamin D and calcium. My hair started falling out about 2 months ago. I am hoping it slows down soon. I went to a surgeon recently (who knows about weight loss) and he assures me that he has never seen anyone go bald over it. So, I try not to wash every day, don't brush as much and just be all around more gentle with it.

Oh, the other thing I've been doing is twice daily scalp massage to get some blood flow into my scalp better. My beautician aunt mentioned that...I'll try anything if it might help. She also suggested Bosley products but I'll use up my Nioxin first.

I would get sick every time I took biotien. When I started taking calcium pills the hair stopped falling out. Best wishes
