I to am from Adelaide, I live out towards Gawler. I was sleeved on the 11th February, 2011 by the wonderful Dr D'onofrio at the Calvary Hosp. Nth Adelaide. Hasn't been all smooth sailing but bearable and getting better. So far since the pre op diet two weeks before surgery have lost 16 kilo, something i could never have done on my own. Would be happy to talk with you if you ever need. Good luck and stay in touch.

Hi Dawn, you hang on to your hat there girl, I had 12 months to wait also and here I sit 6 weeks post-Op. The time went fast I can tell you.Stay here now and read and post till your hearts content.

Thanks Sandy, I am trying to investigate all the pros and cons for this surgery, I have also realised that for me I would probably have the gastric bypass. I have spoken to a few clinics and they have told me that would be the way to go because I live here on Fraser and it would be hard for me to get medical help in an emergency and the follow up isnt as extensive as it is with the band. I love reading all the posts on here and broadaning my knowledge. I think your best avenue to get to know about anything like this is to talk to people that have experienced it. Thank god for the internet.

Hey Dawnlb, are you only deciding between the band and gastric bypass? I thought the gastric sleeve is recommended for rural patients because it also very little follow up but is easier to still get enough nutrients. Also I think you can have the sleeve as a two part operation for bypass, and see if you get enough excess weight off with sleeve alone or if you need the second procedure. Jess
