It seems it doesn't matter what I eat or drink I get a little bit of acid reflex, it's worse with some foods but I get it with everything.

Did your doc suggest one of the ppi or h2 blocker meds for you if this happened? I was told to take 2 a day at first and I'm down to 1, hoping some day to get off them but who knows.... I take prevacid. There is a natural train of thought that just didn't work for me but might work for others, that's to take a tblsp of cider vinegar in water before bed.

CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.
Hi I agree with Grace.. Even before my surgery, my surgeon started me on Nexium because the know that when you have much less in your new tiny stomach that the acid is a problem for many problem.. So I have been taking it since I was on the optifast where I started getting very bad acid reflux.. Ask your doctor if he feels that a rx med would benefit you.. Hope this helps..Kim
I agree with Kim, if it's as bad as it sounds then you def need rx medication. I had bad reflux prior to surgery so post-op was no different. I take Prilosec twice a day and I must use the gas x capsules twice daily as well. I found out it wasn't just the reflux, but the gas pushing food and liquids back up as well. Hope this helps.
I too am going a bit crazy with the reflux. It is actually stopping me eating because I just think that I will throw up the food. After three weeks I am still only drinking. I can't stomach the protein shakes, the smell alone makes me heave. I am doing a soup with ground up chicken which is good but it is so hard to get down any other protein. I can manage about 75 gr of yoghurt. I have been told that because I am a band to sleeve, there may have been other issues. At the moment I am on Rapazole and Sucrafil gel and I still sleep sitting up. I am just hoping this is not for too much longer. I know we are all different.I am definitely feeling the no food thing but I have no urge to eat or drink.
I wish I had access to some of the neat protein drinks you have in the US but short of body builder protein shakes, there is nothing much here in India.
Does anyone drink those protein shots? They look like they might be an answer.
All the best
B
I never had an issue with it pre-op, but did post op. My surgeon explained that this is very common in VSG patients due to the small stomach left behind and the increased pressure in it as a result of the reduced size. I could not control mine with OTC meds, and he gave me a script for immeprizole (? ... I think that is what it is called). I take it once a day in the morning, and haven't had a problem since. He did say that for most its a side effect that will go away over time.
Thanks everyone. I do always eat sitting up and stay sitting up for at least 2 hours and that does help some. The acid reflex is not horrible but is annoying. I'll ask my my Dr about it too.
