%$#!!& Liquid Pre-Op Diet

This liquid diet just isn't sitting right with me. I've felt hungry and weak for going on two weeks now. Today at work, while flying around, giving out tubs of sherbet to kids who earned the principal's honor luncheon, I blacked out and hit the floor--right in the cafeteria, in front of all my 1st and 2nd graders! My school nurse happened to be on campus. My blood pressure is all over the map, and I am now home in bed and waiting to go see my PCP in aboout half an hour. They gave me juice to drink and told me I need to eat. No one at work knows I'm having this surgery, or prepping for it, but my nurse, after examining me, thinks my electrolites and blood sugar is low and that I am exhausted. No shit! I hope I am not forced to abort the pre-op diet so close to surgery. I will also email Dr. Kelly today and let him know what's going on.
Oh, but I'm down another 2 pounds.

It's one thing to be on liquids and it's another to not get enough nutrition.
If you are drinking 1200 cal a day of protein shakes you should be okay....Can you tell us what they want you to do?

I don't know why they do this to you folks. I had only 24 hrs of liquids, just keep my presurg weight loss off and be "cleaned out" when I got to the hospital.

Oh no Sunflower, I'm praying for you. Maybe they should let do the protein shakes and a meal. That liquid diet is for the birds. Feel better and good with everything.

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sure hope you feel better. You sure don't need to hurt yourself. The things we have to go through to be healthy and thin no fun at all!!!!!!!!!!

sunflower, I'm so sorry! I teach too. The other day I got very faint when shelving books and almost went down! I had to sit for a few minutes and I was in a cold sweat. Only 1 other teacher up there knows what I'm doing. It is so hard with kids running around all the time and you chasing them! I feel for ya! I hope everything gets okay for you! only 3 more days to go! you can do it!

I'm on Day One, and I told my husband that he has to bring a fruit smoothie when he comes and gets me from work! He'll be here soon, Thank God! Not fun at all...I'm to do 7 days on the clear liquid pre surgery diet! I'm Type 2 diabetic, so have a call into my doctor to see about my medicine dosages, I had one sugar low about one hour ago, and had to have a glucose tablet! That's why I want the fruit smoothie...More soup and protein shakes when I get home!!!! Mind over matter, Mind over Matter! Be careful Sunflower!!!!

Wow that is just crazy, so sorry Sunflower. I really, REALLY feel for all of you that have to do the liquid diet. I only have to do it the day before so I can handle one day. Hope you're feeling better now Sun!

Thanks all! I just returned from my doctor's office. My regular PCP wasn't in, so I saw another doctor in the practice. She did an EKG, which came back normal. Then she sent me for a chest x-ray and blood work to make sure my heart looks ok and to check for electrolites, blood sugar, anemia, etc. I am still waiting for results on those. She told me I am weak and need some carbs and hydration. She wrote me a note to stay off work tomorrow and Friday. I didn't say anything about my upcoming surgery because I didn't feel like having to explain myself to a perfect stranger. My PCP knows I'm getting ready for the sleeve (just not in Mexico on Saturday) and I have an appointment with her the Thursday after I get back,; I'll explain then when it is all done. It may help that my PCP is Mexican herself--may not have such a jaded attitude toward foreign doctors. Thanks again for all your concern. I am going to eat a light meal of real food this evening and get lots of rest over the next couple of days.

I am pretty sure I've been getting less than 1200 calories daily--plus last night I worked llate. A 14 hour workday, with a 35 mile commute each way, on an empty stomach just about did me in !

Hang in there sunflower. So sorry all that happened...You are almost there... This is the hardest part!!!!

I was only getting 300 calories per day in liquid protein during my pre-op diet. I think I just had more fat to live off of LOL

Glad you saw your Dr take it slow and keep us posted.
