Default Do you eat 60 to 70 grams of protein a day? Im finding it hard??

    Hi All!
Just curious if most of you sleevers out there are getting in your recommended amount of protein? I am five weeks post op today and I am still not able to take in the required amount of protein.... I do like they say and eat the protein before anything else on my plate..... Im finding I get full very quickly... I have been doing a protein shake here or there to try and make up for it but I am so sick of them I gag them down!!! Thanks!

I have a protein greek yogurt smoothies every morning. That is about 20g of protein.

Then I try to eat 8oz of meat (2oz per meal) total. That is about 48g of protein.

What protein shake do you drink?

Can you eat cottage cheese? Yogurt? Deli meat?

I think once your stomach is not swollen, you will be able to eat more. I remember I couldn't eat much. Now I need to measure my food so I don't overeat.

Lost my last post.. let's try again.

For the yogurt protein shake, I use fruits (strawberry, banana, pineapple, blueberry), non fat plain greek yogurt (fage or other kind is fine) and milk (almond milk, soy milk or skim milk). I just do one third of each. And blend it with an immerson blender. I add unjury unflavored protein powder. 1 scoup per 8 oz of the mixture. Blend. You can sweeten it with stevia or splendor.

I make a pitcher once a week and have it for breakfast everyday.

Chocolate banana peanut butter shake is also pretty good. Mix the unjury chocolate powder with any milk. Add 1/2 a banana and 1 tsp or so of natural peanut butter per 8oz.

I do get my protein and find it way easier than my fluids. I highly recommend Oikos Greek Yogurt, it gives you 13 grams of protein per container and is divine! I eat 2 a day one for my mid afternoon snack and one for an hour or two after supper. The other thing is sugarfree carnation instant breakfast for morning and cheese and deli meat. I get the really premium cheese in the deli... I love havarti cheese and cajun turkey it so yummy and has great protein content. Lunchables are also great because they are super easy to take to work and are 20 grams of protein. I have to split it up though... 1/2 for breakfast & 1/2 for lunch... I can't eat it all at the same time. Then whenever I get home I only fix myself the meat of whatever my family is having so... last night was taco's so I took taco meat, cheese & refried beans 1/4 of a cup and probably fed half of it to my dogs. LOL! Tonight is speghetti so I will have a couple of meatballs but no pasta. Lastly, are you using my fitness pal? It will really help you calculate your protein content as well as your vitamins carbs and calories. Good luck girlfriend!

For some reason my dietician recommended that Greek yogurt is not necessarily a great option- she said you should 1/4 the amount of carbs as there is protein, and Greek yogurt has too many carbs. I love it, but i've been kind of reluctantly avoiding it.

Anyways, deesleeve, in regards to your protein shake dilemma I have to say I have the same problem.I found these drinks at the vitamin shoppe, or maybe you can buy a case online, that are an awesome solution! They're CLEAR like Gatorade and have 40 grams of whey protein isolate. There's Isopure which I think is more common and they have a wide variety of flavors, and cytomax makes them as well. I prefer the cytomax, my favorite is the watermelon, it's kind of sour but masks the funky taste that the Isopure brand has. Try them out! I'd say with one of those a day ( size of a Gatorade) I actually DO get 60 grams of protein!

I made the smoothies recently. It is actually 1/2 scoup of protein powder per 8 oz if you already have added yogurt. If it is just fruit and milk, then use the full scoup.

I'm not a fan of protein shakes either, and the only time I drink them is when I have a Slim-fast low carb shake maybe once or twice a week for convenience. I focus on protein in everything I eat, so for instance I eat a lot of cottage cheese and snack on pistachios or jerky/meat bites. For meals I focus on high protein foods like shrimp. Typically I get in at least 50g of protein. Occasionally I'll have a bad day and not get that much, but if you work on learning what foods have the highest protein content you should do alright.

I gag just thinking of the protein powders. So nasty! I eat cottage cheese, lean meat, peanut butter or nutella on crackers, Skim Plus milk, all cheeses, deli meat. There ARE other ways. I tried mixing the powder in milk and in pudding. OMG- so GROSS!

I had the same problem, I prefer the Protein shots! You get 42g of protein & i can usually get it down in 3 gulps. Good luck in finding a way to get your protein in! I haven't been able to find them in any stores besides walmart.

I was told to limit protein to 30ga every 1.5-2hours. Any more than 30g within that time frame will not be absorbed. Has anyone else heard of this?
