    Red face Visiting England

    Hi everyone,

I am 22 months post-op and have lost 62kgs now so I am a happy chappy for doing that

I am coming to England for 4 weeks in May/April and wanted to know if there is a support group in Chelmsford Essex and if so when do they get together.

I have been in a unique situation in that I only personally know of one other person who has had the sleeve and have only met her twice so have had no support excepting an online group which I only found out about 12 months after I had had my op.

I live 5 hours drive north of Perth in Western Australia and as far as I know am the first person in this very large area to have had the procedure and maybe the only one as our local surgeon only does banding and he has only started doing that in the last 6 months.

So it would be lovely to met up with some other ppl who have had the same op just to say hello and talk through a few things.

    Ruth

Support groups are motivating Ruth; I hope you find one. If you ever come to New Jersey, you can go visit mine. I was there Thursday night, and there must have been close to 150 people there. Some have not had the surgery yet, and some don't know what surgery they want. But the rest of us have had WLS, and inspire one another. Until you find a local group, and/or a group in England for your visit, and even after you do...we are all here for you in this forum, only a mouseclick away!

Thanks Diane. I go to a support group here but it is for lap-banders so some things are the same but most are not which is why I was hoping that when I got to England I might be lucky enough to jag a group close by

Well, I live in Scotland now, but still own a flat in London and make it down there sometimes. But Essex is a bit out of the way for where I live in London. It is funny, because I am the only person I know that has ever had a sleeve personally. I hadn't really thought about asking my Nurse if there are support groups.

Somehow I think we are a unique group of people, which is perfectly fine with me!

    Hi Kitsonk,

I didn't even know about online support groups until 12 months after my op

But it would still be nice to know or talk to someone else who has had the op just to have them say "oh that happened to me" or "Yes I have that problem"

We are going to Scotland when we are over there so what part of Scotland do you live in (if you dont mind telling me) Maybe we can catch up

I live near Edinburgh (and I don't mind telling). I am always up for catching up with folks, especially and Aussie. My partner and I are heavily considering moving to Oz permanently, although it will be more likely East Coast, ACT or Sydney.
