Do you use BMI? Do you use a weight you had before?
I just picked a weight I was confortable with once upon a time. It may not be reasonable since it was like 25 years ago! I've never heard of a formula. I don't think you have to be too serious about this number. I figure my body is going to do the deciding anyway. Where ever I end up landing on the scale will be fine with me. Anything is better than where I was! Good Luck.
I used the BMI Chart as a reference and added 25 pounds to that weight, which for my height is a good weight. The BMI chart is not a set in stone guideline. All it is, is a mathematical equation based on height and weight, It does not factor in such things as, breast, feet, hand, and chest size. I would have to say it is a maximum weight loss point, and then you can add in your own proportions.
I chose the weight i was before my weight gain started, which was after i had my son. Realistically i think i'll stop at ten stone rather than nine but nine stone is a nice weight to aim for.
I worry about setting unrealistic goal. On the other hand, people will wonder why I have so little to lose. I think I am going to set it higher than the recommended BMI weight. Once I get to the higher weight, I can reevaluate.
I picked two weights, a first acceptable goal and then a dream goal.. I met both and my doctor told me another 7-12 pounds to go but I feel good and if I don't get that, I won't cry! I was never a size 10 in womens, and I am now, so that is enough for me. I figure I have that 7 pounds in excess skin lol
I'm concentrating on just losing right now, but I figure my body will guide me. The high end of my 'ideal' is 135 for my height, but I fell that may be a tad unrealistic for me. I would have to say my 'dream' goal (to steal the phrase) is 135, and my 'realistic' goal is probably more like 145...we'll see when I get there!!!! (note the positive attitude!)
I'm 5'8" and 52 years old so I just picked a number (165) that I thought was obtainable and would work right for me. I'm not trying for a bikini body just a smaller healthier body.

They asked me and I said under 200, which wasn't very specific but at the time was almost 80 lbs. I am 5 ft 8, and there is no way I should way 159 or whatever the BMI says I should be. I would look like a bobble head doll, I was that when I was giving birth. My goal is to be off all my meds--high BP, cholesterol, etc.
Me too Munchkin! I'm 5'3" and I will be totally happy if I can see under 200. I'm starting at 365 and under 200 would be a total blessing. I haven't weighed anywhere near what the BMI scale says since before I was a teenager, I would be setting myself up to fail if I headed in that direction.
