Need words of wisdom surgery on Wed. 2/8/12

My surgery is just a couple of days away Wed. 2/8/12 Any final words of wisdom for me?

I have doing well with my liquid fast and have been sure to get in 70 to 90oz of water and 60 to 80 grams of protein per day.

I don't drink coffee or smoke so didn't have to quit

Stopped drinking soda 2 weeks ago

I have also been doing breathing exercises to build up my lungs.

Anything else you can suggest for me?

You seem to have done all you need to. I can remember what I felt like a couple of days before surgery and am excited for you. Go with the flow. This time next week you'll be feeling great and at the beginning of your new life. Good luck and I'm wishing you all the success possible

Gas-x tongue strips as I have said in the past is a must have. I remember all the feelings of pre surgery so if you need us we are here.

Also, after the surgery, just sip your liquids. Don't try to do anything more than sip. 1 oz every hour. Finally, walk a lot. It will help get the gas out. Sounds like you have done great pre-op, you'll be fine post-op. The biggest thing is follow the rules your doc gives you. Every doc seems so different on here Good luck and keep us posted.

Good Luck...<<fingers are crossed>>. You are going to do great, and we won't accept anything less! From what everyone posts, I think you/we have already done the hard part, we made a decision to have this surgery and we are going forward with it. WE can make it through the rest of this with flying colors!

2 more days for me too.... I am FEELIN' it WITH YOU!!!

I have been dieting for 6 months and lost 34 pounds. I have not really changed my diet much the past couple weeks. I wasn't really instructed to. But I have already been doing 1-2 meal replacements with the protein drinks and just eating a meal and light snacks. I suppose I SHOULD have been a bit better the past week or so but I wasn't I hope that what I have done so far has shrunk my liver already!! I'm just doing liquids today and then clear tomorrow. I never did break up with coffee like I was supposed to I'm such a procrastinator and my head always tells me ... you got plenty of time girl... stupid head.

Good Luck! Sounds like you are ready! Here are a few things that I recommend:

Have a heating pad ready to use post-op! It helped me SO much! My gas pains weren't nearly as bad as I had expected but I think it is b/c of the heating pad.

Don't forget to take lip balm. Your lips will be very dry when you wake up and you may not be allowed to have anything, even ice, right away. Having the lip balm handy helped refresh my lips.

I liked having a safety pin to attach my drain to my clothes. That way, it wasn't swinging around or tugging at me.

As you are learning to sip, you may want a sippy cup. Really wish that I had one for those first few days.

Get some crystal light or propel zero packets. Water doesn't seem to go easy by itself for a lot of us.

hi theresa . this is my5th day witout 2-3 cups of coffee every a.m. im really ok with it. its not that bad .ive been drinking water w lemon or lime or a splash of cranberry juice . i dont have a surgery date yet but soon.good luck to u

Thank you all so much. I can't tell you how much this forum has helped me, I feel prepared and ready for surgery. I'm an event planner so by nature I'm a veracious planner, I try to think of everything ahead of time and plan for it. This surgery has taken some of that out of my hands and I don't like that loss of control, I feel I have done all I can to plan for the best possible outcome. The only thing I would have done differently is lost more weight before surgery, I just ran out of time to lose more. I went on a diet right after my first consultation with my surgeon Dec. 20th. my insurance doesn't cover WLS so being a self payer I didn't have the long waiting period before surgery. I could have it as soon as I jumped through all the hoops of pre-surgical testing and 26 appointments later here I am. January was brutal for my date book, I had a Dr appointment or a test almost every day two and even three on a couple of days.

Reading all the posts here and well wishes I feel ready. My sister Gail is also getting sleeved but not until early March, she is incredible and has been just amazing to me. I know I could not have done this without here help, I wish you could all have a sister like her.

To my forum sisters here who have the same surgery date, I wish you all well and I'll say a prayer for you and I look forward to hearing all about your experience.

PS I've made a note of all your suggestions and making a quick trip to Walmart right after my Dr's. appointment this afternoon. Anymore suggestions, please suggest away, I'm very grateful for all of them. Thank you all so much.

Try different temps of liquids after surgery. Some seems to love ice cold, I couldn't handle cold for 5 wks, only room temp or slightly warm...and don't worry if water doesn't go down well at first, just go for whatever does that's decaf and acceptable to your doc. Herbal tea is lovely.
Otherwise, All I can add are my best wishes for all of you getting sleeved this week.. oh, and bring a pillow in the car for the ride home, to hold on your stomach to help any bouncing.
