    Default Cold and Tired

Hello. I am 11 days pre op, and I am abnormally cold. I am taking my multi vitamin, but no bariatric supplements. I will be ordering from Bariatric Advantage as soon as I can.

I think that is pretty normal. I was always hot before and then was always cold, cold, cold after surgery. I am 12 weeks post op and am what I would consider fairly normal now. Not sure if it's the surgery, the small amount of food being consumed or what.

I too, used to be hot all of the time and now I get cold a lot more often. I invested in a snuggie! I love it!

Two things post-surgery contribute to the feelings of cold:

    1. You are consuming fewer calories. Calories are a measure of heat. Pure and simple.
    2. According to my dietitian, you feel cold when your metabolism is slowing down. The best way to combat this is to eat several small meals throughout the day, basically 5 or 6 times a day, and to exercise to raise the metabolism. She recommends eating as soon as possible after waking in the morning to kick-start your metabolism, and a minimum of four hours of cardio exercise each week. I have noticed that I now only feel cold when I am resting in the evening, watching TV, just before I am ready to go to bed...basically, when my body is winding down for the night. So it makes sense to me. I have discovered that an electric throw over my lap while watching late evening/night TV solves the issue....or walking on the treadmill while watching TV, even better!

Relax; the cold can be slowing down of metabolism or anxiety of operation. You must relax and follow any form of instructions given by the Doctors. Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement Shake is a perfect pre-operative weight loss shake. It consists of 23 essential vitamins and minerals and 27 grams of protein and is Lactose-free.

Hi I am also cold and tired. I had my surgery 17 days ago and I am trying everything to get proper vitamins. I take a multi vitamin liquid iron and b12 but I am still cold and tired all the time. I dont feel sleepy tired buy body tired. I can't even imagine excercise at this point. I am on mushy foods right now but can seem to get 1200 calories in as they recommend. Does anyone have any ideas?

I posted on this many months ago but an update: I had my surgery over a year ago. I used to be hot all the time, then was frozen after surgery. It took my body several weeks to normalize "somewhat." Likely from the fewer calories, less body fat, and the surgery itself. Having said that though, a year later, I am still cold, but not to an extreme. I used to go all winter (and I live where it's cold in the winter) without socks and shoes in the house. Now I need socks and very warm slippers! But I would trade that any day for how I look and feel now! I wear warmer clothes and bundle under a cozy blanket in the winter. I love my seat heaters in my car!!!! In the summer, I love the heat. A very worth while side effect of losing all that insulating fat!

Think it was the either the doctor or the chemist who told me that as I lose weight I should feel the cold more due to having less "natural insulation" than before....could also explain feeling so hot in the "before" life.
