    Default Diet Coke addict

I am 12 weeks post up; I feel great & have been losing weight steadily. However....I have started drinking diet cokes again.... What is this going to do to me? Will my new stomach stretch out? Will I quit losing weight? I love the taste of an ice cold diet coke so much!!!!!

Not having had the sleeve yet I am probably not the one to answer this, but my view is going through all these modifications to my eating "habits" I cannot see wrecking all your hard work! This sleeve is a "tool" that can be fooled, I have the begin as I mean to carry on. Good luck to you, having a journal and writing everything that I eat and drink down helps me tremendously.

I enjoy Diet Coke too. I am not an addict. I just made a promise to myself that I would make life long changes and one of them is knowing that diet coke is one of them. Today I got my operative report and pathology report. In the report it said that my stomach was very large so large it would not fit into a pathology bag. I never never want to get back to that no matter how badly I want something. Mind over matter. It just does not matter that much any more to have something that they told me would hurt me. But the bottom line it is up to us. I never want to compromise what I have just gone through for food or drink or what the emotion is that goes with addiction to it. I hope for you good luck. I have a on going journel for food and fluids. That is the only way I can stay on top of intake. I am 7 wks out. Today I got on the scale and I am 28 lbs less.

I was a Coke Zero addict before my surgery. About a week ago, my husband and I went to the movie theater. I just wasn't in the mood to pay the theater cost for water, and my husband had coupons for free cokes with popcorn, so he got me a Coke Zero. I sipped it slowly and didn't even drink a third of it. Then this past weekend, we were at a presentation and all they had were sodas. So I opened a can of Diet Coke and sipped at it...didn't finish half. All those bubbles feel strange in my belly now. I think we're not supposed to drink it because the carbonation makes us feel too full, and we risk not getting sufficient protein and other nutrients when we drink sodas. I'll just avoid it now unless it's all there is, but I'm not afraid of it.

It is funny how so many of us were/are diet coke addicts. I used to drink at least 2 cans of diet coke a day. I haven't even had as much as a sip of diet coke since I started my pre-op diet in October and I can honestly say it is the one thing that I do miss. I have really been concentrating on only putting "good" sources of fuel into my body and unfortunately diet coke just doesn't fit anymore. It is getting easier everyday.....

Well I have sipped a tiny little bit of coke zero...but since my doctor told me no sodas I have completely removed them from my life...it has been though but I was able to do it, so I think anyone can.
Coke zero or light may not have calories but are high in sodium and sodium can interfere with your diet, also remember that you have restricted the amount of food you can eat with the sleeve so it is wiser to use that space for something nutritious. Plus the gas can make you feel bloated.
This is my humble opinion. Life its about choices, and certainly after the sleeve our success is tied to the choices we make.

My wife is addicted to diet coke. I used to drink a 2 liter of Sunkist Diet Orange every
day. I have found since giving up all sodas that I don't miss them at all. I seldom
order iced tea when out, now I prefer water with lemon. I do enjoy the Walmart version
of Crystal Light. I think the further I stay away from sodas the better.
Nothing changes if you demand that everything stay the same. Not drinking soda's is
a very small part or price to pay for my 170 weight loss.

Hi, my name is Janet, and I'm addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper. LOL I have read that sodas are not recommended after the surgery, and I thought I would see how I'd do. I started by switching from the regular 12oz cans to the cute little 7.5oz ones. No problem. Then I tried to survive on just 2 little ones a day, now I am down to 1 small can a day. Its hard. Harder than when I switched from regular cokes to diet. But I know I could cut them out altogether after the procedure.

I have never had the Diet Coke addiction, instead I have the Diet Mt. Dew addiction. I am scheduled to have surgery in a month and am trying to get to the point of quiting the soda and coffee. I do like the Crystal Lights, but it is so easy to pop into a store and grab a soda. Any other sugestions?

    BLAGH!
There is absolutely no problem in consuming diet soda in moderation, 1 or 2 cans per day is not a problem.
Will it stretch my stomach? In short NO, your new stomach can only hold so much, if you over eat, you will be sick, the gas in soda will reduce the amount you can eat! Especially if you try and eat AND drink.
Remember the part of the stomach removed was the "stretchy" bit, you can and will stretch your stomach over time, as all tissue is "stretchy" this will be mainly due to solid food, not gas.

I drink 1 can of diet coke per day, I also drink Staminade.

    Talking Re: Diet Coke addict

I was a Diet Coke addict, and I sure did love the heck out of them. A big treat for me was going to get the very largest size of diet coke on tap....mmmmmmmm. And we get both canned and on tap diet coke FREE at work. So I used to drink quite a bit of Diet Coke. I was sleeved on 11.1.10. No problems except some mild pains sometimes when I eat too fast or eat steak or hard meat or veggies. But I remember so well at 4 weeks out and my hubby and I going to a restaurant for the first time. I took a very small sip of his diet coke and then ate 5 grilled shrimp. The pain was so bad in my stomach, I was nearly in tears. And it lasted for 2 hours. I never have figured out why that happened. But I will never take a tiny sip of Diet Coke again. Giving them up has not been that bad. I used to drink a lot of rum and diet cokes too and those have not been that difficult to give up either. I have given up wine too. And almost all carbs and sweets. I am so happy being skinnier, it makes up for all of it.

It's easy to pop into a store and buy a Vitamin Water Zero too!

Before I started my weightloss journey I was drinking a 2liter of Coke classic a Day sometimes more. Yes I was addicted to soda.

I eventually got my self down to 1 liter then 20 ounces. Coke zero tasted better to me then diet coke.

I still think about Coke esp when I see my family drinking it, but in all honesty I already have issues with gas since the surgery. 2 & 1/2 weeks ago that I couldnt imagine putting all that carbonation in there to add to the gas I aleady have.

I dont know what the future holds for me. I am living in this Moment One day at a time. And treat Coke/ soda as if its my enemy. I read somewhere that drinking 1 can a day of any soda adds 13 pounds ofweight to your body a year. I am trying to loose weight not gain it!
