Question My sleeve won't shut up

Every night I lay down and my sleeve just talks like if my stomach is growling? My throat gets very dry and I cough all night. Does this happen to anyone else?

    Good Morning!
Yeah, it happens, I call mine my Wookie.....it calms down later on.
Though it is normal to have noise... one of the RNs here had a word for it (Peristalsis), when the stomach is emptying... I am more concerned with the rest of your symptoms because it surely sounds like GERD, are you taking any acid reducers to help? That dry/cough can very well be the acid flowing up into your throat and burning it. It can get bad enough to erode your esophagus and give you big trouble...
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

My stomach NEVER made noise before surgery. Now it sounds like I am trying to smuggle 2 grumpy chihuahuas under my shirt. Lol

My stomach growls many times throughout the day and it is SO embarrassing! It can get pretty loud and anyone around me can hear it.... thanks Grace for the explanation!

This is me also. Especially with liquids. It sounds like there's a mutant alien in there waiting to come out. OP, I agree it also sounds like GERD (acid reflux). I've had GERD since I was in my mid 20s. When my gastro did my upper GI (to clear me for surgery), he re diagnosed me with GERD and a hiatal hernia. When my bariatric surgeon went in to do my sleeve, he fixed the hernia and my GERD is now almost non existent. Even so, he insists on taking GERD meds (I take aciphex) every day to reduce acid in the stomach. My husband, who is tall and slim, is thinking about getting his hernia fixed just to be relieved of GERD, it's that bad.

Hi Michelle. Yes it is normal at some point and many patients do get it. It is a sign of inflammation of the sleeve but as Grace mentioned, having the rest of the symptoms is not that good (coughing all night). That is GERD. Do you know if you had a hiatal hernia at the time of surgery? Did they do any additional repairs? Please make sure you take your antacids for at least a month. As the days go by you will notice that the sleeve gets unswollen and the noises stop. This may eventually happen several times a year and you may have to repeat the treatment or get in touch with your surgeon. I hope this helps.

    warm regards,
    Dr. Alvarez

No, no, I'm not a nurse! I've just been sick a lot and read a lot about what I get....I was an international shoe buyer and then took care of my elderly M-I-L until she passed in Dec.
These days I am in transition

My tummy likes to talk to my bf's tummy. In fact, I think they have more conversations than we actually do!

As for being embarassing, everything is relative... Would I rather people hear my tummy rolling around and talking like Chewbacca, or have people hear my pants when I walk because my thighs are rubbing together? Can I handle the minor laughs at the noise easier than handling the looks I get if I dared go out in a swimsuit?

I will take the alien over the fat anyday
