WARNING: This is about seriously hurtful things...
I have this gift of blending in with guys, but sometimes it's a curse as I hear things I wish I hadn't. I grew up with 2 older brothers & was in the Army, so when I say I get along with guys more often than girls, it's no joke or exaggeration. Normally I find the male banter hilarious & role with it easy as you please. But it wasn't until the other day that I realized how invisible I was. Maybe it's because, as so many people who know me say, "You carry your weight so well! I would have NEVER guessed you were THAT heavy!" Or maybe it's because my chest is so ridiculously big now it distracts from my more unacceptable curves...who knows. Well the other day a couple guys I was working with were joking about how men go out to find girls to hook up with. Trust me, not the offensive part. We're all adults, just a fact of life. Well one says, "Oh yeah in the Navy some guys said they'd go hog hunting. They said fat chicks always put out because they have low self esteem." Then they CRACKED UP laughing. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! Like I wasn't a "fat chick" right in front of them!!! I was crushed & couldn't even find words to respond because I had respect for the man who said it.
I think I immediately buried these hurt feelings to carry myself on throughout the day with these 2 idiots & then the rest of my time there at that clinical site. Just like every time someone blurts out destructive words without a second thought to the damage they do. These are the feelings we must face head on to recover from this condition. I can't wait to have this surgery & with the grace of God lose this weight, but I must accept it is partly to escape this image our society had apparently created. I refuse to be invisible. This is not how I want to live. However, I must learn to pay no heed to the words of such ignorant individuals. These people that are on such a lower thought process level that physical attributes of others defines how they choose to treat them. That is for the animal kingdom. I choose to be a human being & see people from the inside out. So people like him, who think their exterior is so beautiful that they can talk like that, I got bad news for you: YOU'RE ugly. From the inside out, you are the ugliest part of our society.
