Default I am just getting started.

    Hi everyone,
It is nice to be able to communicate with other women about their gastric sleeve surgery. I must admit I'm both excited and nervous.
My mind is made up but I haven't scheduled my surgery yet. I'm hoping my dear fried Anne will decide to have surgery at the same time and we will have each other for moral support.
Can anyoneviseme as to how many nights I will be away from home eg one night in the hospital and about how many in the hotel? Also, I am assuming I will be on a liquid diet the whole time I am in Mexico and wine would not be a good idea. Am I correct?
Physically, how uncomfortable will I be after the surgery? Should I bring pain medication from home?
Di you have follow up care with your family physician back in the States
Was their any problem with your medical insurance covering this care?
Any advice you can give me would be so, so welcome.
    Many thanks,
    Robin

I had mine done in Mx. No wine. Liquids only while you are there (mine was clears, but some get full liquids.)

My surgery included 2 nights in hospital, and 2 nights in hotel. I was very comfortable, took a taxi and went to ocean and did some shopping on Revolution St. on my second post-op day. Had no difficulty walking through airports for my flight home, then drove the 4 hours back home without an issue. I you have some spare pain medication you can take it with you, just in case but I didn't need it.

    Best wishes to you!

Thank you, I miss my little Reggie SO much!

I have had a wonderful surgery, a fantastic recovery, and great results! Am 141.1 lbs right now, and my BMI is now in the normal range, YAY!! Plan to lose 16 more pounds to a weight I was before children, but know I want to lose at least 10 more pounds. Working on toning and do walking, Zumba and barre exercises. Very happy with the transformation so far. No regrets at all!

I will likely get my tummy tucked at one point, because of the ravages pregnancy had on my body. But I knew that many, many years ago after my first pregnancy.

    Best wishes to you!!

Hello Robin and welcome to the forum. I had my surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Quinones. I spent two night in a private room at the hospital and one night in a hotel. Most surgeons have different pre-op diets. With my surgeon I was on a two week pre-op diet which included no alcohol. Keep in mind the pre-op diet is about reducing the size of your liver.

    Good luck,

    Stacy

Welcome to the website! I had surgery last may with Dr Quinones in Mexico. Best decision I ever made! I am down 108 pounds so far WOOHOOOO! I am a wine lover and enjoy it once again but I got to warn you that you will feel the affects much faster after the sleeve.

Im happy to answer any questions, just PM me

Thank you so much for the info. I did not know why the liquid diet was required as I have not received my instruction sheets. Now I understand why different people are on their liquid diets for different periods of time.

Yes, you will see a very wide variety of pre-op diets posted here, ranging from just nothing by mouth orally after midnight to I think the longest I remember seeing was 3 weeks liquid re-op diet. The pre-op diet helps to shrink the fat around the liver to make it easier (and safer) to move during surgery.

Personally, I believe the pre-op diet is very important to get you accustomed to the dietary changes required for post-op healing. I didn't find it 'easy' but not nearly as difficult as many post about. But I had done a lot of mental preparation in advance and have very realistic expectations about the process as well.

Welcome aboard. The sleeve surgery was the best decision I've ever made. This site/forum is great and full of helpful advice and supportive people. I had my surgery in the US, but wanted to wish you well. Best of luck in your journey.
