    Hey NYmom...how are you doing?

Hi Amy! Found you. So glad we're in this together. Does Dr T's office speak to your insurance on your behalf to fight the BMI issue, etc? My appointment is Aug 17th. I'm getting anxious.

Hi Amy, My name is Angela and I am local as well. I live in Clifton Park. I had my surgery in May at Ellis in Schenectady, even though my husband works for St Peters (they didn't participate with my insurance, go figure). Anyway, I am a 31-year-old SAH mother of two girls 3 and 5 (soon to be 4 and 6). Good luck with your insurance situation, insurance companies are ridiculous! They'd much rather fork out the money for a triple bypass surgery than WLS... That makes so much sense, right? If you have any questions or need someone to talk to, you can message me anytime

I am also a patient of Dr. Travedi's. I would love to chat about your experience.

Such a small world huh? I love it up here!! After surgery sounds great!!

Dr T's office sets up all of the apts. except for a few. But they give you the phone numbers of people they want you to see. So most of them are in albany area.

I hope all goes well for surgery.. My 3 year old daughter says shes going to sleep at the hospital with me lol. if only...shes to cute.
  6. My parents have a camp on Sacandaga in the town of Northville. Maybe once your sugery is over and you're up to it we could make a time to meet.

Wow, that is a lot of tests. Did Dr. T's office schedule them or did you? I have had some things done like a stress test last year and an upper endoscopy a few years back, but I'm guessing I will have to do everything again. Did you go to St. Peters for all of your tests or to Drs. near your home?

I can't believe your surgery is right around the corner! You will do great! It's ok to be nervous, just concentrate on the new healthier you to come!

    Amy,
I had to go see the nutrionist, psch eval, upper gi (yuck), enoscopy, cardioligist, and pulmenary dr for breathing and sleep apnea. I only had bloodwork once so far. This was what Dr T required. My surgery is april 10th...its coming up fast im getting nervous. On top of....my husband(big procastinator he is) still hasnt taken the day off for my surgery. Im worrying im gonna be there by myself lol.
I live in Mayfield....its on sacandaga lake but i work in schenectady.
  8. Hi Aleea,
I love your name, it's so pretty! Can I ask what tests you needed to do? I know there is a lot of bloodwork, but other than that what else have you needed to do to qualify for surgery? Did Dr. T require you to complete the tests or your insurance? I have to pay out of pocket until I reach my deductable, so I am just trying to get an idea of how much I will need to pay for. My insurance requires a 6 month diet, and a psych eval. Ugh! it's sooo much to think about. Thanks for being willing to answer my questions.

I would love to meet up sometime. I live in North Greenbush, just outside of Albany.

That is what made me decide to do this as well is my children. I have a 3 and almost 2 year old. I am lucky thusfar that i dont have high bp or cholesteral or diabetes or anything like that. Im just overweight and I dont want to be that way anymore.
I do have to say that when i went to Dr T that when i told him i wanted to do slim fast instead of medifast (which Dr leminski (the nutrionist) will want you to go on) he was fine with it. And I lost and am still loosing weight. Dr T said i dont care how you loose your weight just do it lol.
I hear that the insurance companys can be a pain. Luckily mine went very smoothly. And Nathan at Dr T's office is very helpfull with that stuff. If anything comes up he will call you right away. And did the others with your insurance have the sleeve or bypass? i think somethings are different with differant surgeries. Also that is a really high BMI for them to cover. Most are 40.
Where do you live? I am assuming near albany. Maybe we can get together sometime and chit chat. My Name is Aleea btw.
  10. Thank you. Yes, I'm excited but also very scared. However I know I need to get healthy. I have three kids ages 10 7 & 3 and I really want to see them grow up! I was excited to see someone else on here who is going to dr trivedi. I'm guessing my surgery will not take place until next fall. My insurace co requires me to be monitored on a diet for 6 mos before surgery. And I will most likely be denied, because my BMI is under 50. Or that is what I have heard from others with the same insurance. But, I guess many fight the insurance and eventually are able to have the surgery. So, I will see what happens!

Thank you for your support! I hope I can be the same for you! Btw, I didn't get your name.

    Hi Amy,
Congradualtions on your new journy. I love Dr trivedi!!! When i first decided that this was for me i will be honest i was SOO nervous about meeting him. I was affraid like all other doctors i was going to be judged on my weight orI was going to get critisised. And it was just the opposite of this. He is very easy to talk to. He doesnt judge you. He is there to help and answer any questions you might have. It might seem like a long list of things you have to do to pre qulify for you opperation but it goes so quick. My first visit was Jan 20th i think and my date for surgery is april 10th. If you have any questions feel free to call. Its nice to have somone to talk to about my journey!!!! and to hear about someone else's as well. I Will support you the whole way through

Anyone with Highmark bc/bs?

by NYmom on 04-30-2012 at 03:08 PM
Anyone with highmark bc/bs, how long did it take for you to get approved for surgery? I called today, and was told 4-6 weeks. I won't have all of my requirements met until late October and then having to wait another 4-6 weeks is putting my surgery very close to the end of the year. Worried I won't be able to get the surgery in and will end up pushed into January and having to pay my deductible again.
