Hey Norms! So sorry for the late reply. I (for some reason) just saw your message from 10/8.

Things have been crazy-hectic. I would give so much just for a couple hours to do nothing but relax. Even as I sit and type this, I'm thinking of all the things I need to do for school, work, and my household. haha. I guess I'm totally accustomed to the way things are in my life, though.

What about YOU?! How have YOU been?!

I only watch when I'm at rugby crazy friends as I refuse to pay for the coverage.

I watched a really cute kiwi commercial this morning on FB. It was for a bakery with gingerbread men doing the Haka (?) for rugby. Very cute. BTW, I'm South African, so hence the rugby go Bokke!

Thanks for the guy words, man. I appreciate it. My schedule can be a kick in the pants most of the time, but I'm blessed with a spirit that is hard to beat down. I consider myself to be an eternal optimist, and I pretty much figure, "Hey, it could always be worse." haha I just gotta keep on trucking. Hopefully, I'll be rich one day, and I can make my money make more money while I just hang out and do fun stuff all day. :P

Well, I still have about two months before my surgery so right now I am just reading as much as I can about the Pre-op, surgery and Post-op do's and don'ts. I just received a copy of SUCCESSFUL WEIGHTLOSS WITH THE GASTRIC SLEEVE by Dr. Alvarez, one of the surgeons in Mexico. Personally, I will be sleeved by Dr. M. Almanza in Mexico. I'm not sure if they are in the same hospital or not. The book is full of good information. I guess soon I will clear out all the crap in my kitchen cupboards and freezer and stock them with lots of Protein drinks, popsicles, etc. I think I will treat myself to a new set of measuring cups and spoons. I had just bought my grandbaby (2 yrs old) a set of ten colored little plastic shot glasses (but a bit smaller) to play with in the pool - I think I may go get myself a set. Someone on here mentioned using those for hourly "shots" of liquid throughout the day! ONLY 64 a day!!!! :-) I've already bought several tins of Protein Powder by JAY ROBB that I have used in the past and i just received a Starter Pack of Unjury which I have read is good. So, I guess I'm gearing up!!! I only have to do three days of clear liquids prior to the surgery day. That's not bad! Heck, I did that prior to a colonscopy so I wouldn't have to drink that god-awufl tasting prep! lol. Yes...don't worry about the plateau. I've read it's very common and doesn't last. Just keep eating what you are suppose to eat...lots of protein and water!! Thanks for writing back!

It's been awhile since I posted.....

by Norms on 02-06-2012 at 12:38 AM
Hi All,

It's been a fair while since I last updated my blog or participated in the forum. It's been crazy busy so it's been one of those bottom of the list things while I get everything else sorted.

Well it's been a good couple of month since I last updated this thing so to start off, when I last updated my blog I was 299lbs, I'm happy to say I'm now down to 259lbs with the goal weight being 142lbs, I'm now 100lbs lighter than I was when I first started on this journey.

2 months on......

by Norms on 09-30-2011 at 11:24 AM
For those who may have not read my first blog, I had my operation on the 29th of July 2011. At that time my weight was 359lbs, I'm now in the 200 range and my weight is 299lbs. I've lost 60lbs in the last 2 months and feel great. But it hasn't been a walk in the park. When I was first recommended for the Gastric surgery(our public health system pays for it) I weighed in at a hefty 410lbs. After just over 12 months of getting my weight down I was finally accepted at 359lbs, so it was a hard slog

Second check up 29-8

by Norms on 09-07-2011 at 07:45 AM
I was suppose to write this a week ago but it has been a mad house around here and I haven't had a chance. Anyways....before I went I had hit the dreaded plato about a week or two before the appointment. I didn't worry about it to much as I figured I would change my diet and kick up my exercise routine. The first part worked a charm, the exercise....not so well. I tore my calf muscle while kickboxing. When I went back in for my check in I was still on 324lbs. I did have a chat to my dietitian and

First check up since Surgery.

by Norms on 08-16-2011 at 09:24 PM
We'll I had my first check up since having my surgery on the 29th of July. When I started my diet prior to my operation I was 187kgs(412lbs). That was back in May of 2010. It was probably the best decision I had ever made. Unfortunately I could of had my operation a lot sooner had I taken the option of working towards having a gastric sleeve the first time it was offered to me. Back then I was peaking between 195-197kgs(429lbs-434lbs), high blood pressure and regularly suffered from bouts of gout
