Slept pretty good last night. Had to wake up at 6 am to start drinking the "purple water" as it is called. I'm not going to lie - it's freaking nasty!! Made me a little queasy this morning. Then when we got to X-ray, we had to drink more crappy stuff during it. When we got back to the hotel, I met up with some other surgery patients and had broth in the restaurant. The night was rather uneventful. Some gas pain but I slept in the recliner in my room and that seemed to help a bit. My roommate was discharged early in he morning to go back to the room. I was picked up in the lobby at 9:45 am for preop testing. After that, we went to the hospital. I am sharing a room with a local who speaks very little English and I speak no Spanish. However, we are managing to check on each other. We did meet with Dr. Almanza for about 30+ minutes and I found him to be very personable. His English is relatively good, and he explained the surgery and plan twice: once in Spanish for my roommate and once in English for myself. I have not had any pain since surgery.

Observations on my flight
I never realized how boring flying was when you can't eat (or drink) your way through the flight! I decided to fly first class to San Diego and I am glad I spent the extra money. While I wasn't able to eat the meal that was served, the flight attendant was extra attentive in making sure my water bottle or apple juice glass was full. I had also forgotten that you get the good stuff in first class - no plastic cups up here!
