I am originally from St. Louis and moved to Florida 12 years ago. What part of Florida do you live. I am in Palm Coast which is between Daytona and St. Augustine. MY insurance is UHC and they refused to pay any of it either irregardless if I had health issues or not. Jerks!! I have paid out thousands to them and it is very frustrating to deal with this. I thought I would have to give it up until I found Dr. Schillingford, he is a terrific person and I love Nancy!! You will be so much healthier after the surgery.....your sugars will go way down if not before when you are on the liquid pre op diet which I am on now and you will be on in a few days. I have to say self pay cuts back on a lot of the insurance hoops but I would rather jump through the hoops than pay it all myself.......but it is worth it.

Hi Kelli: You're the first one I've met that is with Dr. Shillingford. I also am paying out of my pocket. I have BCBS FL & they tell me that my policy excludes any type of bariatric surgery. I moved to Fl from Chicago (actually a suburb) almost 2 years ago with my husband. I lost my job due to a buyout & could only find contract or part-time work - no benes. So I stayed on COBRA for 18 months, now we pay totally. $1300 a month for me & my husband & they won't cover the surgery. I am diabetic & this will be nothing but good for me & make me healthier. I am 62 and was concerned I was too old, but Doc assured me he has done surgery on those much older. Happy to find you & please stay in touch. It will be wonderful to have eachother's support.

Hey Kelli, I saw your post about your gall bladder comparison and sleeping in a recliner. Our stories are similiar, I started at 284, have my gall bladder out and am having surgery June 3rd. Seems like we should really stay in contact and compare our journey!
