I have had a gastric sleeve.

Biography:

Horrific things are at the root of my weight and self-esteem issues. I don't remember a time I wasn't the heaviest person in the room. I hid much of my sensitivity from myself as much as anyone else. This went on for a LONG time.

I'd considered WLS actively for 10 years. I would go to a seminar and think "that's not the right hospital, or the right time" or something else. As much as anything else I wasn't ready.

So one day in spring 2013 I was talking to my doctor, who had a bypass about 5 years ago and asked her if she thought I could do it. She said yes, definately. That went to my pcp, who went to a surgeon and from there.

And although I could have done this and saved a great deal of my health years ago, I have to say that it was supposed to be NOW, this year. This is when I'm ready and even though I suck at patience, I suppose some good things do come to those who wait.

Six moths later and my life has changed so dramatically. I have oodles of confidence and I'm not afraid to try anything. I actually love to go shopping now and am almost at the point where I can walk into a 'regular' store. This trip is NOT roses and ponies. I rededicate myself to it every single day, but it's the best thing I've ever done for my health and for me as a woman.
