Sorry for the delay in response. Everything went well and they took good care of me and my friend girl. I can honestly say the first night was the worst. But once you get through the first night you will be okay. Each day it gets easier. Make sure you have plenty of broth, jello and liquids when you return from the trip. If you have any questions I'm going to send you my email and phone # and you can get me much faster.
  8. I know the liquid diet is so important for sure!!! 3 days into it doing good just feeling a little weak and tired!! Did you feel like this???

I'm feeling pretty good. Able to eat more things and hardly any pain. Two of my incisions are still open but they are starting to close up. Congrats on getting your surgery soon! The first couple weeks are the hardest but things will get better.

Stick to the liquid diet because it is definitely worth it! You will be so glad you did when you wake up after your surgery. If you need any hints, feel free to ask. Best of luck to you!!

I had a wonderful experience! I went alone, so that was kind of hard, but I have 2 kids and wanted my husband to stay with them. I grew up in San Diego and have been to Tijuana a lot, so I knew what to expect. I felt the facility was clean, and I felt safe there. The staff were great and very accommodating. To be honest, I'm not a high maintenance type of girl, and have a pretty high tolerance to pain. I never felt pain and never used pain meds once I left. I had a little bit of discomfort, but once the drain was taken out I felt pretty good... I honesty think it was more of a mental thing for me than a physical discomfort, seeing a drain coming out of my tummy freaked me out, haha! I was able to eat whatever I wanted 2 weeks after my surgery, as long as I chewed well. I have never thrown up, felt pain, or experienced any problems since the surgery. My stitches were taken out with no problem, and my scars don't bother me at all. I am almost down 80 pounds and very happy with that. I've seen some people lose more at a faster pace, but then I read that they are still on liquids or soft foods, and some of them by choice. I didn't do this surgery to only have shakes and apple sauce, I did it to learn to eat in moderation. I physically can't eat a lot, so I chose to eat what I want and try to make good choices. I still enjoy my favorite foods, just in moderation. I hope this answers your questions, if not let me know what specifically you want to know, I'm more than happy to help.

In the end...go with the choice you make...the one you are comfortable with. Read...ask questions...do your research...make the decision; then enjoy the journey!

had a rough first week; since then it has not been bad. surgery is always a risk...no one can tell you the outcome. For everyone you talk to on here...you will get a different version of how their surgery and recovery experience went. The only thing i can assure you is that if you go to mexico...be prepared for no frills experience. I do not mean to make that sound bad...because it was not. I have been a nurse for 26yrs...they did what was needed and they took care of me. had to laugh my last day there.. was checking out & a girl was trying to check in...she had come from the clinic after having surgery the day before....yelling and carrying on like a princess ...could not believe that she had to stand there after having surgery and demanded to be waited on NOW!! I left laughing!!! OMG was she in the wrong place!!! They are very nice there...he is a good Dr and did a very good job(can only speak for myself); I was double checked when i got home with every test they could throw at me...was ok"d by a major bariatric surgeon out of pittsburgh, PA. At the end of the day Sheri...you can only go on your own decision. I had no family support and people at work were begging me not to leave the country (clear up to the day i was to leave)!!

    ok, so here we go..

pack very little you won't need half as much as you think you will
GASX strips are a lifesaver, bring a couple of boxes
the first day is the worse and you will wonder why you did it, but that will soon be a distant memory
if you can, have someone go with you, you feel better having a friend or family member around
when you have to drink the blue ink before your leak test, have freezies with you and take a sip of the blue crap and immediately stick the freezie in your mouth. The freezie will get rid of the bad taste of the blue ink
when you go for your leak test, they make you drink more awful tasting stuff. on the counter in the clinic is a bowl of candies/lolipops. Take one in to the xray room with you. have it unwrapped and ready to put in your mouth the second you can
stay an extra day in San Diego if you can, especially if you are travelling alone. the extra day gives you more strength to travel. For me I had a 16 hour day travelling from Ontario Canada. If you are close, then it won't be as bad
you won't have time for TV, books or electronics so leave all that stuff at home.

if you have any questions or want a further explanation of anything, let me know and I will do my best to help you through.
    Cheers!
    Leisa
