  1. Yes, I gave up hibiclens for wound wash, called JH and they said its normal, and since there's so much coming out, I needed to use pressure to try to bleed it. It looks just like what's inside the drain, and no odor...once I get as much as I can out, then I am to watch it for a day or so.
  2. So this morning, when I went to change my bandage on the big incision, it was soaked. It had opened up right where the drain was and was literally oozing. I cleaned it up the best I could and rebandaged it. I am hoping it closes back up...tomorrow is the day Im supposed to leave it uncovered to begin to dry out, but that doesnt feel right to me yet. My appt with my PCP is Thursday. Do you think I should try to get it moved up? The JH has not returned my calls.
  3. Yes, I have been sleeping like a log in my own comfy bed! Today I feel better about everything. My incisions itch but they all look good. I have been able to eat about 2/3c. broth. Then later I add water or clear protein drinks. I know I am hydrated well enough since I urinate about 4 to 5 times in 24 hrs....so all in all, can't wait for the brain to "forget" the icky stuff....My calves to my ankles and my elbows to my fingers feel the lightest they been in a while. Nice not to have the skin stretched so tight over my feet that they itch! LOL
  4. Hey BethJane, I am afraid that besides feeling just ok, I hated the entire experience. Its because the smells of TJ itself began to becomes associated with my physical feelings at the time. And when I smell something, I would get so yucky nauseous....the city just wreaked with a stench I could not get away from. I realized on my last day there that even the clothes in my case that I hadn't even worn yet stunk, I had to buy a shirt at the airport to wear home. And even now, home almost 36 hrs. I cannot bring myself to do laundry. I just want to throw those things out!

BethJane, my surgery was 12/15 in Tijuana. How are you doing? I feel my weight loss is slow and it goes up and down every couple days. I'm not sure why-- not enough water? Particular foods? I eat smart but what I want, in small quantity. Just went back to Curves today and felt fine. What have you experienced?

This came from my dermatologist who showed me the research article. I cleaned with soapy water followed with hydrogen peroxide dilute. Patted dry then put the vaseline over it. They healed awesome. I will PM you with my cell number. Text me, and I'll forward you a pic of what my sites look like 3 weeks after surgery when I returned back to work.

Please do not put any triple antibiotic on your incisions it can cause MRSA infection! Vaseline will work fine and stop itching of the normal healing process too! I put vaseline on all the incisions sites. If you want, I can text you pics of my incision sites after they have closed. They are very small and hardly noticeable.
  10. I know! I am not sleeping well. I took the required laxative late in the day yesterday and was making several trips to the bathroom, lol. I had a dream I had it done and could not wake up from anesthesia! yikes...anyway, I saw some people's posts yesterday about how they got staph infections from Almanza's clinic and they were advising folks to find another doctor! It really freaked me out cuz I cannot change anything now, and I really am just probably willing to risk it for the sleeve. I dont know, so much back-and-forth in my mind...I just have to get on the plane and I'll be fine.

so how was your surgery in mexico? just curious. Im planning on having mine here in the states but if insurance denies me im heading for mexico....i'm just trying to get all of the info i can.
  12. No I have not. I will wait till I talk to Dr. in Mexico...and then talk to my nutritionist here....the capsules I would take are all herbal supplements so I don't know if they would hurt me or not to just open and sprinkle...so how are people taking their meds if they cant swallow a pill? Like for pain? Am I never going to be able to take an ibuprofen again?
  13. Thanks, I will ask my cardiologist. I have my blood work done with him in March. So maybe I'll stop taking them or crush them(?) till then. Also, many of the supplements I am going to try (for iron, and to help with hair and skin elasticity are powders inside capsules that can be opened and mixed with foods. Gonna try that little by little. I did find out today that even though my pre-op instructions say that for a BMI over 40 the patient must be on the liquid diet for 2 weeks, that is not correct. Whew. I could not even imagine 2 weeks without chewing, lol!
Congratulations on the normal-range BP! That is just great!

I THINK I'm doing well. Still pretty much on shakes and liquids. Egg whites scrambled or in an omelette with sprinkling of low-fat shredded cheddar, Greek yogurt, SF pudding, chicken and beef broth. Went out with my husband Wednesday - had 2 whole grilled shrimp LOL. I go back to work Monday and see the doctor Thursday. What about you? How are you feeling? Happy New Year!

1.5 years post op

by BethJane on 07-10-2014 at 01:26 AM
Hi, just a couple of items. I have gained about 10 lbs. but I have discovered although I can't eat a large meal, I can eat many mini meals throughout the day. When I am working this is not a problem because I am busy working, but on my days off it is a problem. Also, I think my stomach is slowly stretching bigger, but not a lot. I had constipation for a long time after surgery and had to take stool softener tab daily, but not since I had my gall bladder out. The two best things I have done is

12 months update

by BethJane on 12-05-2013 at 01:38 AM
I've lost about 75 lbs in about 11 months now. I can eat anything but in smaller quantities. Recently, though I had a gall bladder attack and have to have it removed. A risk factor for gallstones is rapid weight loss, low fiber diet, and more. So I'm thinking all those months of of protein shakes could have contributed to this. So my new diet restrictions will be a non fat diet and I think that will not be hard and will probably make me lose more weight again.

Compliments, Yeah, Baby.

by BethJane on 03-02-2013 at 08:25 PM
Well, the compliments are finally arriving. I have lost about 43 lbs. and feel great, and my size 14 pants are getting loose on me. My Dad who is 78 y.o. (and I come from a really large family of skinny people) came over today and said "Wow! you've lost a lot of weight! Are you sick? How much weight have you lost?" Ha Ha, reminds me of a previous post here when a LOL at church had asked our sleever if she had the big C. My Dad had not seen me since 5 days post op, and, he does not

Back from OK city

by BethJane on 02-22-2013 at 04:57 PM
Hi, flew to OK city for 5 days, stayed with my sister and her family. She doesn't know I had a sleeve last December, so it was a real test to see if I can "get away with not telling". I feel my sleeve is my private confidential medical information and have no guilt about not sharing the info with anyone. I was nervous about the trip since I didn't know if I would get nausea or vomit because of different foods. Also, I would not have access to my own kitchen or a car to go buy what I might
