Great to hear from you. Glad you are home safe and sound! You will feel better each day. Just be easy on yourself and focus on getting in your fluids. I wasn't freezing right away but as the weight comes off, I am usually feeling like a Popsicle. Yeah, I agree about the clinic entrance and even a few other things about the rooms but I don't mention those things to others because what freaks me out might not be a big deal to others. I never felt unsafe so I kept those personal opinions to myself. Keep me posted! Heather
  2. Hello Heather,

My husband bought me some Ensure to see if I revive lol
I loved Dr. Perez and the staff at the hospital. But the hospital was a little freaky especially the entrance. Im cold all the time I mean freezing! Thank you so much for keeping in touch with me. I will update more when I am feeling stronger!

I Have lost 23 lbs so far. I started pre-op at 219.8, I wasn't sure how much I lost on the pre-op so I do not know what I weighed on the day of surgery. They did ask me what I weighed and I said 215 but that I wasn't sure. I never saw scales at the clinic so they just took my word for it. So I just use 219.8 as my starting weight. I have been eating solid foods in the form of chicken, salmon, tuna and eggs. I can get down about 1.5 ounces at one time and feel really stuffed. I chew everything like crazy and try to eat slow. I have read so many different posts about how long a meal should take but I find it takes me about 20 minutes to eat the 1.5 ounce of anything solid. I can eat about 5-6 ounces of yogurt or cottage cheese. I try to eat 3 meals and the 2 snacks are my protein shakes or quest protein bars. I have had problems with having an acid stomach so Dr. Perez has me on Prilosec 20mg once a day. You sound like you are ready! Please keep me posted and tell Dr. Perez that Heather Brown said Hi.
I will be thinking of you

When you get to the clinic you will sign a few papers and they will put you in a bed, start an IV, run an EKG and do a chest Xray. The clinic was small and clean. I had a room with a hospital bed, a cot for my husband and a TV. Nothing Fancy!!!! I wore their hospital gown at first and then after surgery I remained in their gown but added some PJ pants. I was comfortable. I cracked up when the nurses took my temperature numerous times in my arm pit. No fancy gadgets at this place.

You will be discharged with some Gatorade and fruit juices. If you run out, the hotel has a small store or you can go across to the Mall and find a few things. Mu husband and I stayed 4 extra days just for some R&R so the stores came in handy. The room has a small kitchen with a fridge that makes ice and I found this to be great for my drinks. The bartenders around the pool will also get you ice if you need it. Hmmm...what else? Let me know how I can be of help or if you have any other questions. Heather

Other than that all went well. The hotel is awesome, the driver is prompt and efficient. When you get to the airport walk all the way through the airport to the outside and he will be waiting for you with a sign that has your name on it. If you have never been to Mexico before you will see that in the airport as you walk to the outside, everyone will try and stop you to either ride with them or buy something, just say No Thank You and keep walking until you get outside. The driver will take you right to the Westin and then will tell you what time he will be picking you up on surgery day.

    Hello,
Thank you for the well wishes, things are going fine. You will be fine too.
My experience in Mexico with Dr. Perez was great. While the nurses speak very little english, they do understand the words pain and nausea. The nurses administered pain meds and nausea medication via IV on a regular basis and so I can honestly say, I had no pain at all. Dr. Perez even discharged me with pain meds to take orally if needed but I didn't need a single pill. Now, I did experience a lot of gas pain. I guess during the surgery he inflated the belly with nitrous or some type of gas to be able to see all the organs during the procedure and while some of the gas is removed at the end of the procedure not all of it is. What Dr. Perez told me was that walking helps with the gas pain and so did deep breathing. I noticed that if I felt a gas pain, I would take a deep slow breath and a long slow exhale and the pain would go away. I didn't experience "gas" as we know it, it doesn't come out like that (not to be gross) it is released by breathing. I read numerous blogs that said to bring Gas X that dissolves on the tongue (and cant be bought in Mexico) which I did purchase but forgot to bring so I cannot tell you if it would have helped or not. Dr. Perez also mentions that while you are in bed to move from side to side on occasion so that the gas will move around and that should also help it to come out.
  13. Thank You!
