I am new on this page and have not yet had surgery nor even talked much with my doctor about it. I just got insurance with BCBS of AZ and I know that it is covered, but how do I qualify, where do I go, who is a great surgeon? I need help!! I have not always been big, but have struggled since I had my first son to rid the weight, but instead it has done the opposite. I am 28 weighing in at 251lbs at 5ft 7in tall. Any advice for me would be highly appreciated.

You need to find a surgeon that takes BCBS insurance. Next, attend a bariatric support group or seminar. This is where they will tell you the types of procedures offered, the cost, the steps you need to take. Then choose a surgeon, he will tell you all the steps you need to take before you can receive a surgery date. Most are reasonable. Show diet history, get EKG done, see sleep specialist, attend support group meeting, blood work ect. those were some of mine that I had to do. I recommend you do research on all bariatric procedures. See which would be best for you and your lifestyle. Research the pros and cons of each one. Know the complications and risks to every procedure. Talk with your surgeon about each one and come up with the best surgery for you.

    Good luck!
