I'm hoping to be able to schedule my surgery in the next couple of months. The surgeon said I might need to miss as much as 3 weeks of work. How many days were you out? Thanks.

I would say 3 weeks is a realistic goal. The first week you are recovering. The second week you are recovering and by the third week you are getting more used to your bodies needs and resting less for recovery. This is major surgery and it is great to have some leaway. I have been on these boards for a long while and 3-6 weeks seemed an average recovery time for most people as they acclaimate. As per the usual docs orders no lifting for 6 weeks and keep your exercise going to avoid any clots! Best of luck. Your going to do great!
I went back at three weeks. I work 12 hour shifts, mostly on my feet. For a desk job people can go back quicker.

OK. I am a housewife. I had one week off from my duties, now it's back to cleaning and washing. My husband will cook, since I can't stand the sights and smells at the moment, plus I can't have any, so whats the point?
I do think this is a much longer recovery than usual, simply because you cannot get the food in that gives you the energy you need to do the work.
I still take a nap almost every other day now. If I had to go back to a real job (haha) I'm sorry, but I might have to take a LOA as of now!
Just take it as easy as you can.
Good Luck
I went back to work yesterday at 9 days post op. I have a desk job and I feel fine. Something that really works for me is B12. Before I started taking it I had to take a 3 hour nap daily. I started taking it 4 days ago and suddenly the naps were history and my brain was no longer fuzzy. But it all depends on an individual and what they feel they can handle.
I was originally supposed to be out for 2 weeks, but when I went back for my one week follow up we had to leave my drain in for another week, which slowed my recovery. I was out a total of 4 weeks. When I went back I got tired pretty quickly, but its been almost 3 weeks and I am doing ok. I think the type of work you do might need to dictate how soon you go back. I am a retail manager and Im on ladders, bending, running around all day. I couldnt bend until week 5! Big props to the moms that have this surgery with little ones at home...I really dont know how you do it!
