I'm 5 weeks post op and fell like I stopped with the weight loss. Anyone else experience this? I have been eating soft foods staying under 800 calories, 40-60 Carbs, 60-80 Protein and 40-60 Fat. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, It is common to hit several plateaus through all this. You also find parts getting smaller even though the scale isn't moving. I am almost 5 months out have lost almost 60 and have 15-20lbs to goal typically my weight loss will go drop 2-3 lbs then gain those 2-3lbs back again do that a few times then drop the 2-3 and stay there for a week or two and do it again.
I am six weeks out from surgery. I have stopped losing for the past two weeks. I have had to stop getting on the scales because it depresses me. I know that I continue to lose inches because my clothes are lose on me. My face is really slimming down too. I went to Dr for 6 wk check up and I have lost a total of 30 inches. Guess we have to be patient.
What are you eating every day? What is the total protein you are eating per day? I struggle each day to get everything in. When I met with the nutritionist this week, she told me that my slow down was probably caused because I was not getting in all my required fluids. I have been trying really hard the last two days to get them in. Good luck. My husband has been very supportative of me too. I am very fortunate
As the others have said...this is perfectly normal. Just continue doing what your doing. Drink plenty of water. And eventually you will burst through the plateau....just in time to reach another one.
Well I signed up for a year membership at 24 Hr Fitness. I went everyday this week and lost 8 lbs. That was a lot of sweat. Not to sound lazy but everyone made it sound like it was just going to melt off after surgery. I plan on hitting the gym at least 5 days a week and allow a couple of days for my body to recoup.
Thanks for everyone's input.
Yup, exercise is part of the weight loss and fitness program. Gotta raise the metabolism. Eating five or six times a day also helps with the metabolism...including consuming something when you first wake up in the morning. I was never a morning person, used to never eat until I had been awake about three hours, but my dietitian said to get something in my stomach right away...even if it's just the milk in my coffee or tea. So I start with that, and then an hour later I eat breakfast. Maybe one day I'll be a morning person, ha!
Great job with the gym!!
I honestly think the gym is the best friend of bariatric surgery patients.
It will help your body burn the fat faster...
Keep it up!
These plateaus are normal as stated above, however, don't just stick with one routine, because your body adapts to what you give it. Try changing your calories up a little bit, and eating more berries in the morning while reducing your meals throughout the day.. Don't eat after 5pm.. and at the gym, focus on metabolic exercises to speed up your metabolism for faster weight loss.. Hope this helps..
I've got the same problem. At nearly 6 weeks and not lost anything for over 2 weeks. In fact put on a pound. I am so depressed. I have been close to losing 10kg for the past 2 weeks but can't quite get there. I am under 1000 cals per day and very busy running around after 3 young children. I haven't joined gym yet but shouldn't I be losing weight anyway?! God this feels rubbish.
Hey Nadine, I understand how you feel.. Plateaus happen and are to be expected.. How long have you been on a 1000 cal diet? Your body is getting used to your calorie intake, so try going to a 1200 cal diet.. I know this sounds crazy but you body needs a shock right now.. Weight loss= calories in and calories out.. You have to get some exercise in if at all possible.. Even it it's walking around the neighborhood with your children, etc. I want to do what I can to help you in any way..
Hope this helps,
Blessings,
Ontarian
Thanks for your help. I will take your advice. Nadine.
Ontarian, you are absolutely correct. If you lived a sedentary life before the sleeve and maintain that same lifestyle, then your body will adapt just as when you were overeating and alter your metabolism accordingly. It is very apparent when I see post gastric pictures and people still have a thick mid section which is primarily due to lack of exercise. You got a second chance to live life now you have to use it. Even as a big guy, I was still as active as I could be and had even gone skiing a month before my surgery.
I can't wait now to get back to single track mountain biking and overnight hiking trips. Even as I am recovering from my surgery which was less than a week ago, I am wearing ankle and wrist weights around the house.
Good luck on beating your plateaus.
Probably nothing. Only thing I ever tracked is protein for the day and over
all calories in. It just takes time. Quick early drops can set our expectations
up for disappointment, but overall it will make a nice weight loss graph.
Be careful of lowering your calories below what you nut recommends. And
I know nobody wants to hear it but exercise can create unrealistic expectations
as well. (JMHO)

I have a hard time believing that you're not losing weight eating only 800 calories a day. You sure your calculating ALL of your calories? Don't forget hidden calories like coffee creamers, condiments, midnight snacks etc
